abnormal pap smear

So I went to the obgyn last week and the dr called me last night. She sounded concerned and said my pap smear came back abnormal (class 3), so she said she wanted me in for a biopsy right away. I never had an abnormal pap smear. She said it could just be hpv, but she didn't think so. She said she was concerned and needs to see more tests before she could confirm anything.
is she thinking cancer?

I am freaking out. Dh is is sliently freaking out. I actually heard him up praying last night. He is trying to be strong.

Has anyone else had this happen to them?

pre- cancerous cells on my cervix (not HPV) so she did the biopsy, then did a Leep procedure and I've been clear ever since ( 4 years now)

not to me... but my friend had an abnormal pap smear once and it was HPV

my other friend had an abnormal pap and it was a cyst on her ovary

Ive had abnormal before- im sure alot of people have. My biopsy turned out fine. They just do that to see if there are any pre-cancerous cells. Im sure you will be fine.

I have had abnormal before and had the biopsy and everything was normal. Sometimes your uterus gets inflammed or sometimes its HPV- apparently with HPV it can stay dormant for a while and then pop up and then go away.

Try not to worry!

I had an abnormal pap as well. Dr. did a culposcopy, took a few samples, came back abnormal but not cancerous. The Dr. watched it and eventually is went away.

Just had another culposcopy a few weeks ago and everything came back 100% normal with healthy cells growing in place of the abnormal ones.

It's normal to be worried but know that in most cases it is not anything to be worried about.

I have had MANY abnormal paps and was diagnosed w/ HPV back in 2005. Did she have you schedule a colposcopy? That is usually what they do to biopsy whatever cells she is concerned about. The procedure itself isn't SO bad. I usually take 2 Advil before I have it done (and a Xanax so I am more relaxed). The worst part of the procedure for me is the odor you have which lasts a couple of days after. I always feel like everyone can smell me and I am so grossed out by myself! I shower constantly LOL!

Anyway, it may very well be something very small but don't totally freak yourself out before you have the colpo done. I know, easier said than done!! FM me if you'd like to talk or need more info. I also had a LEEP done July 2006. I had it done IN the hospital though b/c my doc recommended I be knocked out (she knows me so well LOL). Sending lots of and your way!!!

i've had a few of these and each time i get the results back i freak out. but i went for the culposcopy and they do a pap every 6 months for me and even though the cells are abnormal/pre-cancerous they said i'm in the clear for now.

i'd talk to your doc and schedule the biopsy right away.

I had this happen with 2 of my friends and they had the same procedure.

I will keep you in my thoughts...keep us posted...

i have a question - if you are monogamous and get a pap every single year and they are always normal and then you have an abnormal one and find out you have HPV wouldn't that mean you 'caught' it? like a STD?

i never got the vaccine b/c i am with DH - but omg if i ever had an abnormal pap and ended up with HPV he would think i was cheating on him! i didn't think it could be dormant like that? or it can? but then the vaccine wouldn't do anything right? b/c you would already have it? im confused!

ETS: i know tons of girls who had abnormal paps and have had biopsies done.....dont stress, it happens to A LOT of girls

try not to worry, it may be something very minor. Think positive!

yea, it can lay dormant, than pop up years later.
