About the ball...(now with lame pics)
It was so much fun!
The opening commitee was again in white gowns. And there were also a number of ivory gowns around, so I didn't feel out of place at all. I got lots of compliments on my gown and one person even asked where I got it. I wasn't preparend for that question...and didn't want to say a bridal salon, but I wound up confessing that it was my wedding dress. She was impressed and amused. (I think I spotted one other wedding dress, but she had gloves on so I don't know if she was in fact married. It was one of those big princess tulle ballgowns - strapless with embroidered bodice. Sound like a wedding dress, right?)
OK, back to the ball...There were two ballrooms - a waltz room and a swing room.
The Waltz room had a variety of waltzs and polkas going on. We learned some new dances...my favorite was the zwiefarb (?) - took some getting used to but was similiar to the waltz (one, two, three, one two three, pivot on the one two, one two.)
Thw Swing room had the usually swing, lindy, foxtrot stuff going on. There was such a differnt feel between the two.
There were some wonderful performances - austrian waltz, ballet, rhumba, swing, even a square dance show. There also were competitions - one swing and one waltz. It felt like we were IN Strictly Ballroom.
So, it was a great night. The crowd was about 75% Stanford students, so at times it felt a little young and promlike, but was still a blast.
I forgot how not easy it was to dance in my dress - my heels kept getting caught in my bustle! and it was hot under there
. I had new shoes (since I can't find the ones I wore at the wedding) and boy did my feet take a beating. But I'm glad I wore my dress. I think I'm done with it now for a few years (at least till our 5 year anniversary).
We didn't take many pictures at the ball (too busy dancing) but I'll post the ones we took beforehand as soon as I get them...
