You don't need anything. You just call up your credit card company and say you want to add an authorized user to the card. You give them his name and that's that.

I don't think you need to share a checking account....
on the flip side, we didn't find merging credit cards necessary. We both had our own prior to marrying....

You can do it at anytime. I had DH added to cards even before we were engaged.
