What exactly are you having trouble with?

IF you want to buy a book, there are several good ones for about $25 at Amazon but you dont need a book to do this.

I know...I am a spaz...

I don't have it in front of me...but I created the layer...but couldn't figure out how to color anything in. I decreased the hue/saturation(is that right?) so one layer was b&w...but couldn't get past that step....

Ok..so if you have two layers - one B&W and one color you have done the hardest part.

Go to the little box where you can see to the two layer. Click on the icon that looks like an eye in the B&W layer - this will hide that layer for now. So now you will only see the color layer.

Then take the eraser tool and erase EVERYTHING except for the stuff you want to remain colored.

Then click that eye icon again in the layers box and the black and white layer will come back.

It should be done.

Does that help?

that definately helps...I'll try it when I get home...thanks.
I think the problem was I was trying (for some reason) to paint in the color on the b&w....
thanks

There is a little pull-down menu in the layers window. Highlight the color layer, not the backgroung layer, pull down this menu, and switch it to Multiply. That will make you see through the colored layer to your background, or layer below. I like to put most layers on Multiply.

Hope this helps. Any more questions just ask!
