Aw that sounds like an amazing group of people...it should be so nice.
And yeay for the DW in PR!
BTW, I read that you're part Cuban...my dad is half (so that makes a 1/4, I guess)...my grandpa left right before Castro took over...I would love to visit one day!

Sash....MY grandparents (and mom and aunt) left Cuba before Castro took over! They are from Camaguey; actually, they had to leave. Abuelito worked for the government for Batista. They were going to be killed. My mom was a little girl when she came here and only recently became a citizen! My grandma and tia are deceased now...very sad....but I often ask my mom and abuelita about their house in Cuba. If it ever opens up, we will scatter grandpa's ashes over Cuba. that's what he wanted.

Oh, I got goosebumps reading this...
So sad. I hope you're able to go back and fulfill your abuelo's wishes...
My grandfather left but his family stood behind...I don't remember where they're from, but I know there's a place called 'Tope de Collantes' named after my abuelo's grandpa - it's a looney bin (OK, a sanatorium) because he was a psychiatrist...figures! LOL My abuelo went to NY, met my grandma and moved to PR...he thought my grandma was a gringa because she was blonde with blue eyes...I think he was dissapinted that she wasn't. Like many Cubans, his family came from Spain - they fled Franco...and then to flee Fidel, well not all of them were up to it. I don't know if my grandpa ever became a citizen...he passed away 3 years ago.
Wow, this is long...sorry!

no--it's very interesting! sorry about your grandpa. in cuba there is a street named Maximilliano Ramos Way--that's my grandpa's name but he's named after my great great grandpa, who was a general in the war. Whew! Long stories! :) Hopefully we can both go back and learn more. When we were in St. Maarten on our HM, they actually have day trips to Cuba...not for Americans, of course, but I was curious. I probably would have never been allowed back! ha ha!

Have fun Lana! I am jealous, just starting the semeter again and already swamped- no vacations in my future (well this weekend heading to WI to meet DH's grandparents who couldn't travel to wedding).
Thank you both for your stories, wow.
