album....awkwardness with divorced/deceased parents

its been almost a year and I've put off making my album. I finally did it and we have a meeting with the photographer next week.

THe majority of photos I chose are us DH and me. I avoided family portraits at all costs b/c I HATE THEM. I look miserable in all of them b/c they are so awkward. Step parents, awkward moments, my mom who passed away isn't there and it's awful.

Well, I look back at my parents album for some guidance, and I see lovely family portraits with parents, grandparents....everything looks so normal and happy. I resent my album b/c its only DH and I.........no family portraits. It is so self absorbed. Vent over.

Im confused...did you make the album yet or not? If you didn't, Im sureyou can add in other photos. If its done, why not try making one for yourselves on Picaboo or my publisher with the shots if you can get a CD of the images?

Sorry youre not happy with it.

Maybe you could have included your family portraits anyhow? It represents who was able to be there and share in your day. Does it make you more miserable to include the family that were there or to have an album that you say is 'self absorbed'??

My father passed away in 04, my parents have been divorced since I was in my early teens, and my mom remarried my step dad a few years ago. We all have different experiences and circumstances and it can definitely be hard not to have it all be ideal. Especially for such a special day in our lives. But I look forward to including all of the family that was able to be there in our album...and as for the rest, I know and trust that my dad was there in spirit to enjoy the big day. Your mother was surely with you too!!

Our wedding pictures capture the day as it was and our albums are to represent that. Even if everything wasn't exactly as you had hoped, it was still your beautiful wedding day and means more in the grand scheme than imperfect family dynamics.
