An Update On Me ...

An Update On Me ...

I went back to the Orthopedist today for a follow-up visit after going to Physical Therapy for 4 weeks now.

For those of you who don't know, I have a herniated disc and a bulging disc in my spine .... since right before the wedding! I haven't physically been able to do anything normal in weeks ... I can't even go along for a simple errand like food shopping (even if I don't actually take anything off the shelves!)

I'm not really getting better .... and based on the MRI report, I should be

Next step is a Neurologist.

Anyone have recommendations? Preferably in Nassau County (and covered by my insurance ), but I will travel if they're good ...

Hopefully 2008 will be a much healthier year for me

Re: An Update On Me ...

I am in your boat Jess...except everything I have is traced to my rheumatoid arthritis. As per neurologists, my mother uses one in Suffolk-Shafi Wani.

I was told to see if they are board certified and connected with Winthrop Hospital. I know that Winthrop is very good or try anyone connected with LIJ in Manhasset. I will get some names....

But, wanna trade? I went to my eye doc in NYC expecting good news. After about 8 rounds of eye drops, he said my eye pressure was high enough to concern him. He wants me to see a general opthomoligist (since I cannot humanely make it there tomorrow for him to recheck my pressure)...anyone good?

Hey, if you want to FM we can complain to each other. I think I can relate to how you are feeling. My lower back is killing me....and I have to go for more bloodwork so they can tell me that it is related to my arthritis. I totally feel your frustration...I would do anything to be able to squeeze a bottle or unscrew a knob or open a bottle top! Let alone clean my floor!!!! You can vent away to me, I will understand!!!!

Also, if you FM me your insurance, I will ask my rheumatologist if they can recommend someone.

Feel better!

Re: An Update On Me ...

I have a couple of recommendations, depending upon the type of doc you want to see...

Dr. Michael Neuwirth is a Spine Specialist in NYC. He did mine and my sisters spinal fusions. He's amazing. He actually worked on Gloria Estefan after her car accident when they said she wouldn't walk again and Chris Reeves saw him as well.

Dr. Xian of South Shore Neurological Associates is in Bayshore (I think they might have another office as well). He has been my neurologist for years (I get migraines). They must be good because it takes months to get an appointment. Maybe they could fit you in?

Hope you feel better soon!

I see Dr. Hanauer in Lynbrook. He's right on Sunrise Highway. He's wonderful.

Re: An Update On Me ...

Holy cow so SORRY!!! I had the same exact thing 2.5 years ago. I saw EVERY every every doctor, and NOTHING helped. PT, cold paks, hot paks, VICODIN, nothing!!! The sciatic nerve was compressed so it was like having a line of FIRE running down your leg 24/7.

The neurologist I went to put me on 'neurontin?' which helped NOT ONE BIT. Its an anti-seizure/anti-psychotic med (***????) apparently. I told him I got more relief from M&Ms.

The only relief I got was from the surgery - diskectomy, from the miracle worker Dr Patrick O'Leary (aff.'d with Hosp for Special Surgery and Lenox Hill). He does a lot of sports stars (Wayne Gretzky!!! and Dennis Byrd - the guy who wasn't supposed to walk again??) and I tell you it was 100% the solution. One night in hospital, teeeeeny tiny incision, and 100% RELIEF. I didn't walk out of the hospital, I SKIPPED outta there I was so happy!!!

Good luck to you hon, without a doubt this was the WORST pain I've ever had, but I also checked out EVERYTHING prior to opting for surgery.
