Anniversary trip ideas

For our 2nd anniversary we were thinking of a few days in Montauk...the problem is, from what I've read online and heard from people is a lot of Montauk hotels are really gross. Any nice resort that I've checked out online have 3 or 4 day minimum stays because our anniversary falls during labor day week. We just can't afford that.

Anyone have other ideas other than Montauk? We don't want to go too far, somewhere driveable.

I don't know if you want to do camping, but Hither Hills is really nice, out east. Its a campground right near a beautiful beach. I know there is a hotel nearby, I forget the name though.

go to a bed and breakfast place!! there are a lot of nice ones out east!!!

last year we went to Newport- I wouldn't mind going again but he didn't think it was that great. And we've been to the Poconos twice over the last year. Upstate or CT could be possibilities. I'd love Cape Cod too but I'm afraid it'd be mobbed because it's a holiday week.

maine too far? bar harbor is GORGEOUS and you can get a decent priced B&B there. same with Ogunquit Maine. VT - I stayed at an adorable Inn in west dover. You'll get to enjoy the leaves changing maybe... also Portsmouth NH is a great town; we went there in the early fall our first year dating.

We're going there in July - Maine & NH - I can't wait!
