annoyed....

Okay I know there are worse things that could happen. But for the moment Im very annoyed.
DH was under the impression he was getting a stimulus check. So we ordered our album under the assumption that we had another $600 comming to us.
Well last night he goes online to find out when he was getting it and it said he isn't entitled to one because someone claimed him as a dependant. Im annoyed because he wasn't living at home and we needed that money.
Then we got home last night and our tv broke. So now we have to buy a new one because we are already paying for the cable service. And Im already stressed out because of real problems that do matter in the long run of life. So Im just very aggrevated and annoyed and wish he hadn't been told he was getting it when infact he isn't and now i have to magically come up with another $600 to pay for our album. And another couple of hundred for a small crap tv.

Gina that STINKS! but it will work out somehw I am sure. Just take a breath and as cheesey as it sounds, the solution will coem one way or the other. Do you know how claimed him and why? because I would definetly ask what was up with that.

Re: annoyed....

If his parents claimed him, they got a stimulus check for him for $300. Maybe he could ask them about it?

I would find out who claimed him cause it might just be a screw up with the IRS

See thats why we are so confused. he is above the age that they can get money for him being a dependant. So basically- my understanding- they claimed him, probably got a tax break, but no one got stimulus for him. Its just confusing. His mom didn't even realize they claimed him. I guess the accountant got confused? im not sure what happened...

That is very weird it is really annoying when you are expecting money and it doesn't come through. I am still waiting for my taxes to be done .

Sorry about your tv I have a tv you can have. The previous homeowners left it but we don't need it. It is one of those huge super heavy tvs though but if you want it let me know .

Thats very nice of you! DH said his parents have an extra one we can use. So that worked out! And he ahs a broken xbox he has to send in that is under warrenty, so we might use the money for that towards a new tv. Thats if DH ever rememebrs to send it in- since it happened 4 months ago and has to be in by october...

wait a minute--now I'm confused.

didn't he do his taxes for 2007??? how was it possible for someone to claim him and he did NOT know about it?

if he did his own taxes and claimed himself--like one would normally do--and someone claimed him....then at some point he would have received a letter from the IRS stating that someone else claimed him and therefore his taxes would be utterly different. he'd lose his exemption and chances are, he'd either have a smaller refund that would have been adjusted --- OR he owes the government money.

so my question again would be, how would he not know this by now?

That sinks hopefully you can get it straighten out. I feel your pain on buying a new TV. We just went to look for my dad. A reg. 13' is $120. I think that is out of control. I am glad you can borrow our inlaws for now.

Re: annoyed....

how do you not know someone is claiming you?

you can find good television deals at best buy or ciruit city.. just take out a CC with them and utilize their no interest financing offers...

BB has one if you spend over 300 you have 6 months to pay it off... 18 months for anything over 999

I use them all the time/..

ITA with MJ, if someone else claimed him and he also sent in his taxes he should have received a letter from the IRS saying that he had been claimed.

That doesnt make any sense that they would let it go thru if he did his own taxes AND someone claimed him. Someone made a booo boo somewhere

the same thing happened with my dh and his check. if in fact nobody was claiming him, then you need to have your taxes amended for this year and possibly prior years (we had to go back to 2005 because that's when we got married and someone else was doing his taxes). You will then get a refund of the $ that is owed and you will qualify for the stimulus check next year when everyone who got it this year, won't be eligible. We are in the same boat as you. We were counting on that $ too. GL

I have nooo clue! He had his accountant do his taxes(our BIL) he did them for the whole family. But not me- my dad did mine. Dh got his refunds. And he said that bil said he was getting a stimulus. But i guess DH never checked for himself. Then yesterday he decided to and it said the thing about the dependants. BIL was there and he couldnt remember cus he does so many and wasn't in his office to check. His mom said she didn't think they put him as a deopendant, but wasn't sure. I know ZIP about accounting and taxes, so Im beyond confused. I thought anyone who paid taxes and made x amount of dollars was getting the stimulus. I also thought you couldnt be claimed as a dependant by parents unless you were under 24. If anything I should have been the one to claim him as a dependant, but we wenrn't married yet- just living together.

ETA: Im so confused why he didn't know he was claimed....

ok here is the thing, the accountant should have noticed that he was being claimed and filing his own taxes....that doesnt make any sense that he didnt catch that...idiot

It's a simple error-- of not clicking the exempt box while doing the taxes. That is what happened to my dh. We had an accountant do ours too. I'm telling you. He has to amend his taxes and he will get a refund for the $ that is owed to him, and the stimulus check next year.

yeah but unfortunately that simple error can cost you $$$$

this is why everyone should be dilligent about their taxes....its a serious thing! i know i'm biased cause i do taxes--but your DH should have checked the copy of his taxes IMMEDIATELY yesterday to see whats up.

i always hear stories of families who have 'someone' who does taxes like a BIL or SIL and then they just assume things are good when in fact---BIG mistakes are made that can cost people money.

the issue can be handled if your DH just looks at his copy and checks the parent's copy.....then you might have to ammend his taxes to ensure he gets a stimulus payment
