Another DMV/Passport Question

Another DMV/Passport Question

OK, so I still need to change my name on my title, and change the registration from my father's name to my name on my car. I haven't been able to do this yet because I need to have an insurance policy taken out in my name first to change the registration. I have until the end of this month to do it because my registration expires end of this month, and I don't want to pay my dad for another 2 years worth of registration if I'm just going to change my name.

So I already have my name changed on my license...meaning I've already shown them my marriage license as proof. Do you think I need to bring it in again for the title/registration? Even though I obviously already proved my identity if I was able to get the new license?

I want to change my passport asap now so I'm not charged, but I don't want to send out my marriage license only to go to the DMV and have them tell me I need it too. I've already been to the DMW twice, and this will be my third time, and I don't have the time or patience to be sent away again....so for girls who had to do this, did you have to show your marriage license again?

Sorry Ali, I am not sure. Why do you need to do the passport ASAP? Seems as if the DMV stuff would take precedence here. When did you get your passport last year? How much time do you have?

Re: Another DMV/Passport Question

I got my passport in April last year...so as soon as I get home and check it, I either will have just a week, or have just missed the deadline to change my name without having to pay for a whole new one.

This really all boils down to my cheapness. Sigh. If I already missed the deadline, it doesn't matter, but I wish I would have known about this sooner or else I wouldn't have put it off. I don't know if I should just book the HM in my maiden name now and use my old license to save myself the hassle of more paperwork now, or book in my married name and just s/uck it up and pay for the new passport after I get the DMV stuff squared away.

Sorry, but I think you missed the boat on your passport stuff most likely. I know that's not what I am supposed to say. I wouldn't book your trip in your maiden name as now the majority of the rest of your identifying info is in your married name. Especially as you will be traveling internationally. I think that's really only OK when you are leaving right after your wedding.

Sorry!

Fongool! I blame DH...his flipping waffling on this HM, otherwise I never would have got the passport last year if I knew we wouldn't be leaving the country (technically) until August. I should make him pay for the new passport Or take me out to a really nice dinner

Ali - you'll need to book your trip in whatever name your PASSPORT is. It doesn't matter if every other piece of identification is in your married name, customs will only look at your passport.

I know that. But in case she needs a secondary ID for any reason at any point during her trip, all of her other ones will have her married name. Personally, that would make me extremely uncomfortable, but maybe that's just me.

Re: Another DMV/Passport Question

even your hotels must be in your maiden name. In most European hotels (including Greece), you will also need to show your passport upon check in. If the name on your passport doesn't match the hotel reservation, it has serious consequences...... we *almost* had this problem in Italy traveling with my cousin who had never switched her passport over to her married name.

Thankfully, our TA was able to switch the hotel reservations two days before we left. My cousin had booked her own airfare and the name was right on her air ticket but not on any of our other travel documents. It almost caused a problem. The fact that her credit cards were in her married name was no problem.

Re: Another DMV/Passport Question

Eep, now I'm scared lol. I have my old license, and haven't changed my CCs. I've only changed my license, SS, and my payroll/health insurance info. So I guess as long as I have the other license and my passport and CCs in the same name, shouldn't be an issue?

Ehh, I'll probably just s/uck it up and pay and change it and be done with it. What's another $100 bucks when the HM is going to cost...
