a while ago I read (and I can't remember who posted it) that the bike ride down Mt. Haekalea (sp?) is very unsafe and that we should not do it. but someone at work told FH it is the best thing to do in hawaii?
are there other opinions out there?

Re: Another Hawaii Question
We took a bus up and down the mountain and we saw the bikers; we knew there were bike tours that did this and BOY was i glad i was on a bus!!! Wayyyyyy too scary and steep and twisty to decend on bike for me. And you're on the road with the regular traffic around these crazy turns. I'd say no its not worth it, but definitely get to the top by bus its spectacular. JMO safety first.

Re: Another Hawaii Question
We drove up Haleakala and I serously can't imagine coming down it on a bike. The roads are really twisty and kinda scary even in a Jeep. I know people who've done the bike trip and loved it, but I would never do it.

When we went, they only let you bike down a small part of the way, since someone died a month earlier on the tour.
My advice-you don't get to appreciate it unless you go to the top, which was incredible. We drove up and got some amazing pictures. You won't see it on the bike tour!
Now go back to studying for the Bar

Re: Another Hawaii Question
We biked down....I'm a thrill seeker though, DH wasn't crazy about it at first but he had a great time. You stop along the way and you're really out there...the only thing was that you were really on a time schedule and its kinda expensive.
Regardless, you HAVE TO do the sunrise tour- van or bike. If u chicken out too you can always ride in the van.
I felt really safe the whole time...they don't play games anymore. We used Maui Mtn Cruisers. HTH! HAVE A GREAT TIME!!!!
