Ok, so Im still looking into Healthy NY...but it says it does not take care of pre exsisting conditions...what exactly does that mean. Like, if I was diagnosed with diabetes they wouldnt treat me since it was before I got health insurance. Sorry if this is a stupid question...

Re: Another Health insur. question
not a stupid question at all!!!
from what i understand.....
you have diabetes and were diagnosed and were treated....you then lost health insurance & were no longer being treated. That is a pre-existing condition.
PLEASE KEEP IN MIND - I COULD BE 100% WRONG!!!!

Thats what I thought. Pretty stupid if you ask me. My DH has diabetes but we are currently uninsured so if I got healthy ny insurance this means they wont treat his diabetes? they wont prescribe meds or anything? Thats ridicules

Re: Another Health insur. question
Im not sure exactly what it means, I think basically what Jess said is correct, if you have a lapse where it was never/was treated they wont cover it.
My wisdom teeth having been giving me problems forever...when I got insurance 2 years ago they would NOT cover it for 2 years-so i had to wait 2 years in order for them to cover the surgery that I needed on my wisdom teeth.
I would call a rep for Healthy NY and ask them, there may just be a 'waiting period' before they will cover his diabetes.

Re: Another Health insur. question
it means that if you had a lasp in coverage you can be dined up to I think 6 months for treatment, but if the lasp is less then (again i think) 63 days, you will be covered. You should contact them directly to find out the rules, but I know a few months back NY passed a law that they cannot deny coverge for pre exisiting conditions if there has been a lasp, BUT they are allowed to have a waiting period as to when those conditions will be covered. the longest I've heard the wait has been is 1 year and that was for the empire blue/croos blue shield and united health care. If that is the case, not sure if you know, but out of pocket medical care is deductiable on your taxes, if you have to pay for treatment. (up to a certain amount, depending on your income)Good luck, hope that helps.
