Another job question

Another job question

I have the option of choosing an expected starting salary. The choices are $8.01-$10.00, and $10.01-$12.00.

When I worked in retail 6 years ago, I was getting $8.50, and I planned on asking for $10. This is not seasonal. Last Christmas, I quit a job after 3 weeks because I was getting $8.50, and it wasn't even covering gas, but I'm not sure if the money was low because it was seasonal work.

Do I put down 8-10 or 10-12?
Is $10 out of whack for a regular PT job?
I don't want to price myself out because they put a cutoff right on the $10 mark.

Sorry if this sounds idiotic, but I'm self-employed, so I haven't applied for a job in a looong time.

I'm going to say go for the higher bracket -- it sounds like you have experience so that would 'qualify' you to ask for more than the basic starting salary?
You may not get $12/hr but the worst that can happen is they offer you a lower $/hr amount, and then you decide right??
Good luck!!!

Thanks, but too late - I chickened out and decided I wouldn't turn down $9.50. Or $9. Or, you know, something shiny. I'll take anything, at this point, really.

When I worked at J.Crew almost 8 years ago I was making $9 an hour. I would def put the higher bracket. $8-10 is low especially for someone with experience.

Apply at loads of places and take the best offer you get. Good luck
