Is it possible to get a new SS card and a new license without going to teh actual places? I want to do it soon and can't until after september because I get home from work too late and get in to work too early.

Nope. You get a new picture on your license, and SS has to be done in person because it is card related.
You can wait - it is not something that HAS to be done right away.

Ya but I want to do it soon because Im going perm at my new job and wanted to ahve the name stuff taken care of by June 1st. :(

Oh well I guess I will wait till either september or january. Its just that I wanted to aviod having to change it with the company as well. Cus thats a whole other process in itself!

DMV maybe, but SS you have to go to the central card office for the county you live in. For all of Queens, the central card office is In Jamaica. For Nassau the central card office is Mineola.

Wait, I thought you could do ss by mail but you have to mail in your original marriage certificate (which they return). Look into that. You could always get an extra certified copy of your marriage certificate and mail that in, in case they lose it.

DMV you HAVE to do in person because whenever there is a name change, you have to take a new picture.

Yes - you can do it by mail for your SS card...I went to the one in manhattan (on 3rd ave) and ended up leaving bc there was like 100's of ppl waiting in front of me
I took a day off, and went to the one in Jamaica - and it was in and out in 15 min!!

Does anyone know if they'll be OK w/DH going to get me a new card? (lost mine a long time ago) if he has our marriage license? Since I need to show them my drivers license so I can't do by mail. BUT they're only open until 5 and only on weekdays, and I don't get home from work until 6:30. I e-mailed them but got a form reply LOL But i think he'll be OK to do it, as long as I sign the paper saying he can.

nope--he can't do it. how would DMV know that it was definitely for you and he wasn't trying to obtain an id for someone else by comitting fraud or identity theft? its really for your protection. besides you MUST take a new pic...so you have to be there.
you have to obtain 6 points of identification if you don't have your license that was lost....this is a link to the information as to what you can use to get the 6 points: License requirements

Are you sure it has to be the one you live by? After I got married, I moved off of Long Island and went to the SS in Albany and had no problems getting it done there. None of my information had yet changed to Albany.
