If worse comes to worse and my husband's job requires him to work during our 'planned' vacation, could someone else take his spot as far as plane tickets? Is there a charge to change name of ticketholders or do they just credit you for a future purchase?

If they are non-refundable tickets the only thing you can do is use them for another trip. No one else can use the tickets in his name. If they are refundable-just cancel them.
