Any 'for the day' trips you can suggest in Montauk or Hamptons ?

Hey ladies, I figured who better to ask !!

I just want to plan a trip for the day for me DH, and some friends, coming home at nite. We went to Greenport last year and liked it alot. Just wanna see what other nice towns are out there to see. We would probably do it on a Sunday, 2 or 3 couples, (maybe with kids, if couple # 3 comes, lol). Any towns that would be nice to spend the day ? cool aquariums, museums ? (been to Riverheads Aq), or things to do, (not a beach day). I guess just walk around sightseeing, dinner, and back home.... Is the Montauk lighthouse very crowded in the summer months ? and i dont know anything about the difference between all the hamptons towns......i wouldnt wanna go to the wrong one (but i can tell you the entire NYC subway system, LOL)

your ideas are all welcome ! we can do 2 places in a day, if its just a walk through the town and nothing else to see....

Thanks MUCHO MUCH !

hmmm... well, Greenport is a favorite of mine, but you already did that.
How 'bout East Hampton or Bridgehampton? They both have cute little towns with cool stores where you can walk around and site see and shop a little, and maybe grab lunch or dinner.

I haven't been to the Montauk Lighthouse in years, but I can't remember there being much to do around there. I could very well be wrong though, so wait and see what everyone else has to say.

Southhampton has several nice shops, an art museum and a green lawn park with a great view of the ocean. Not far from some great mansion-viewing right out of the Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous if you want to drive along Dune Road and surrounding areas.

My MIL keeps saying she wants us to go to Cold Spring Harbor on the North Shore - lots of antique shops.

Hope this helps...

Do you like wine? You could do the winery tours. There is not much to the towns but the tours are fun. Pindar has a harvest festival for a few weekends in the summer - check their web site. The Hampton towns are great but they are very very congested on summer weekends. Go during the week if you can you'll enjoy it more.

Thanks for the feedback ladies, we decided spur of the moment yesterday to take a drive out there. We went to SouthHampton Village since it was the first one, LOL. Traffic was getting slow. Gorgeous little town ! we walked around and had lunch and headed back home a few hours later.
I was actually surprised to not see alot more selection in places to eat (in the Main street shopping area). We ate at the 'Drivers Seat' bar & Grill - delish, we were starving !
I would have stayed longer or looked for the 'Greek Festival' that was going on, but the humidity was making me drowsy !
But it was a fun time ! We plan to try the other towns next time.

:)
