Any Married NYC Teachers?

Did you put DH on your benefits? How did you do it? Should I wait to go back to work next month or should I haul my a$$ down to 65 Court Street?

TIA

Are you enjoying your first married summer?

I love it!!! I just tried to get through the maze of the schools website and got nowhere...finally I just called the school where I work and the summer secretary told me I have to wait until September.

How is your summer going?

Oh that stinks I love not working but also trying to keep busy! DH is very jealous that I'm off, he's cute, tries to get me up each morning saying he made coffee lol.

I put DH on my benefits...very easy.
When you get back to work ask your UFT rep for a CHANGE of STATUS packet.
Also ask the school sec for the name change form and the medical benefit forms.
Make sure to have a few copies of your marriage lisc. available.

In order to change your beneficiary for your pension (TRS) and/or TDA you have to contact TRS directly for the forms. You can request the forms online or via phone.

Once you fill out the paperwork its pretty much taken care of.

I forgot about the TRS and TDA...

My payroll secretary said to wait until sept., but the DOE website says you have to file within 31 days of marriage.

31 days!!! I just sent my paperwork to the DOE to show that I changed my name and such...I didn't even think about the benefits...That's ridiculous!

I know! It can't be true. My payroll secretary never heard of that.

The DOR is DEAD TO THE WORLD during the summer...even getting someone on the phone *****!
Maybe call the UFT and ask them how to handle it. They seem more helpful.
Good luck!
