Any other brides moved out of state after wedding?

Well I moved a year before the wedding- we actually got engaged a few weeks after I moved in. I got an awesome job in NJ since DH lived here and we knew it was coming, so....

Last year was great - it was an exciting time. New job, planning a wedding.

NOW it's hitting me. I'm in NJ, not LI. It's really bumming me out. There was never any time for it to hit me last year since I was coming back to LI constantly. Now I don't have any urgent reasons to go so often.

Anyone else feeling down about it? I'm heading to LI now since schools are out tomorrow. I was in tears just telling DH I decided to head there tonight...I know my life is here but it kind of hurts that my family is elsewhere.

Anyone else going through this? I still can't believe it's hitting me now! I know I'll adjust...just wondering if anyone else is having a tough time too.

ETA what's even more lame- I'm just over an hour away!! But it's still sort of depressing that I can't just stop by whenever.

DH and I moved to NJ 3 weeks after our wedding.
I got a job out here and DH did a crazy commute to LI everyday to his job.

I do miss LI.....

I did. We bought our house 3 weeks before the wedding and moved in. It's been kinda crazy because I'm still out of work because of my injury. I have no idea where anything is and I'm usually bored off my A**....Oh well, little by little i'm learning where things are but it is hard because I haven't really met new people since i'm not working.

I moved to Albany. Not another state, but still 3 hours away. We have been up here for about 6 weeks and I have gone back 2 times. I only know one person other than DH and before I went back to school, I was so lonely. Now that work has started it is a little better. I do miss spending time with my family and friends though and hope to move back downstate in 3 years.

US! we moved to San Diego a few days after we got back from the HM...

i've been feeling a lot of different emotions! not only is it a 6 hour flight.... but there's also the 3 hour time difference which makes speaking to my friends/family especially difficult! but there have been a lot of positive aspects too.

i can't wait for my parents to come visit next weekend!

We did, and now we're living out of the country! DH got a job in a program that moves us around once a year for three years. First we moved to St. Louis- he moved in June (a month before the wedding) and I moved literally on the way home from the honeymoon. It was really great and yet really hard to be away from home. Being on our own made us much closer. But there are a lot of things I absolutely missed about being home, family most of all. Now we're living in Shanghai, China- 24 hours wortth of traveling away and a 12 hour time difference. So this has been especially hard, particularly since I'm not happy here. But at the same time, there are great things about it. It's been a really great adventure, but again it's made us so much closer than we ever thought we could be.

Thanks everyone for sharing your stories! It's funny cuz I haven't lived on Long Island in years (well except that one year a few years ago when I had to save up for being jobless during student teaching)....I've always been on my own. But Queens/Bklyn was never all that far away. Now I know I have a life elsewhere....and I'm so happy to be with Brett and I love my job...but NJ is still new to me.

It definitely puts it into perspective when I hear your stories- I'm certainly not in another country and I'm still very closeby!! I guess it's just a period I'm going through. You're all taking it very well!!

We moved to FL 11 months after our wedding (in May of '07). It helps that DH's entire family is here and my best friend from college lives 10 mins away... but I still miss my friends and fam on LI. I don't think we would move back though... we love FL so far! I just can't wait for my mom to visit TOMORROW!!!!

We lived in Staten Island all our lives and after the wedding we moved to NJ. It is taking some getting used to. I still go back to Staten Island to do food shopping and stuff. I go back every Sunday to go to mass with my family. I am glad we are somewhat close to our families so we can go whenever we want.
