Any teachers or subs out there? Need advice please!

Ok, so I just got on the sub list in the district where I student taught. I'm really excited, but a little nervous because I don't really know exactly what to expect. I'm the kind of person that likes to get into a routine with a job, and I'm afraid that it's going to be hard being a sub since I'll be working with different classes every day. Can anyone share what it's like to sub? Do you get used to going into different classrooms with different students everyday? Any advice would really be appreciated!

Subbing ROCKS!!!!!!!

I subbed for 2 years while I got my Masters Degree and all I wanted was my own class!! Moved down south and had my own class-it wasn't until then that I realized how awesome subbing is!! So now I moved back to LI and am subbing once again!!

I remember being nervous when I first started BUT you'll get over that relly really quick!!!! For the most part, the teachers always leave detailed plans!! Its quite easy!!!

Just remember not to get stressed!! If kids are acting up I don't let it get to me!! I'm not there to save the freakin the world- I'm a sub, there for the day to make sure the kids are safe and get some academic sh!t done!!! Pretty much a glorified babysitter!!!

Enjoy it, have fun with them!! GOOD LUCK!

Just wanted to say good luck Grace! I only subbed a few times last spring after I finished my student teaching and it wasn't too bad. I'm teaching 2nd grade now and I love it! Good luck!!

I subbed for about a year before/right after student teaching. It is really not that bad and you get paid well. I subbed in a high school and by the end of the month, I knew most of the students in the school. I knew the lady in charge of assigning subs so she tried to give me the same teachers over and over again so I became comfortable with the kids.

Are you subbing in the city or out on LI. It's not that bad once you get a school that is nice. Just always be prepared with something. A book, an activity of some sort. Many teachers leave NO plans.

It is really good experience and it gives you ideas. It really helps on interviews.
Good Luck!

What is the sub pay out on LI???

In the city it is 147.39 a day.

The teachers usually leave plans for the day. And if your lucky they'll let you know who the trouble makers are . It's a breeze, and fun too, because you don't have to deal with the havoc everyday!!

My husband subbed for the first year. He liked it- if you are lucky you can land a perm subbing position (maternity leave) which can turn into a perm position so you never know! As a teacher- I like receiving written reports of how my class was- Im sure other teachers will appreciate it

OH and always come prepared with a lesson plan or two (books to read) acticities and written assignments- sometimes there are no lesson plans and you are stuck there for a day with nothing to do! So its always good to be prepared!

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!
