Anyone change their name twice?
After I got married, I changed my last name to DH's last name and only used my maiden name professionally. However, now that we are expecting, I want to change my middle name to my maiden name so that I can use the same name everywhere.Has anyone done this?

Re: Anyone change their name twice?
I changed my name legally when I was younger and had to do it with the Nassau County Court in Mineola. You might have to do the same thing.I know that since my maiden name now is hyphenated and I am adding DH's last name, I will have to go to the court again to legally have one of my hyphenated maiden names dropped so I can hyphenate one with DH's. Does that make sense?

Re: Anyone change their name twice?
You can - and this is ridiculous, but it might actually be a lot easier - get married again. Go to a courthouse and get married again, get a new certificate and go though the name changing process again. There was an article in the Wall Street Journal about it.

Re: Anyone change their name twice?
You can't change your maiden name to your middle name witout going through the formal court name change procedure in NY State. That's what I wanted to do since I have no middle name. So I wound up hyphenating it. Now I just want to go by my married name b/c the hyphenated name is just so long and complicated but I don't want to go through all that again!

Re: Anyone change their name twice?
I changed my maiden name to my middle name at Social Security. I had no problems at all. They just said that I had to change it across the board.Try Social Security maybe you can just go down with your marriage certificate

Re: Anyone change their name twice?
SS seems to be pretty lenient about the names...when I went they said I could do anything I wanted as long as the name/s were on the marriage cert...
once you have SS...DMV is easier...
(I'm trying to do the same thing as you - after the fact)

Re: Anyone change their name twice?
Is it true that NYS only allows 3 names? I want to keep my first, middle and maiden names but just add on FH's last name. I don't want to hyphenate b/c it looks ridiculous, but I do want to be able to use my maiden name and new last name interchangeably. Does that make sense? I want to beMeghan Elizabeth Jones Smith

I called social security and they said that I just needed to mail in my application and original documents, so that's what I plan on doing. Let's see what happens.
