Anyone else hate the circus???

I saw a segment on ringling bros. the other morning on the cbs early show, and was reminded of how much I hate the circus. I don't know why, I just never ever liked it. I went once as a kid and I didn't like it. DH said to me, 'you're not going to take our kids to the circus when we have some?' And I was like, NO, you can take them.

Is this weird? Anyone else think it's a crazy sideshow filled thing, with oddballs and weird acts????

I used to love it as a child but now as an adult do not! I feel horrible for the way the animals are treated!!

This is my only reason for not liking the circus. They mistreat all of the animals and I dont want to support that by going to their shows.

I don't hate the sideshow part of it.
However, I hate clowns so that freaks me out. I don't like the smell. I feel bad for the animals too. I don't think I would bring my kids to a regular circus either.

I dislike anything that has to do with animals like that. DH and I don't go to the zoo and we don't go to the circus. You could tell me up and down that these animals are treated well, I just don't agree with it and I don't like seeing them like that. :-/

I love Cirque Du Soleil and I don't recall if they have ever used live animals, but I would rather go to that than the regular circus anyway. lol

I don't mind clowns though.


Oh, also, when I was younger my mom took us to a fair, and they had a side show of the 'worlds smallest woman'. I didn't know these things were real or not at that age, and when we saw her it was just a midget with a dress on in a little room with minature furniture. It sort of made me feel sad for her, b/c we didn't know what to do so we just stared at her when we got up there. It made me feel terrible, and looking back I realize that that stuff is not right . :(

i was never a huge fan of the circus, but I don't HATE it. I used to like the animals and such when i was little, but i never liked the clowns. Thought they were ugly. But I loved the atmosphere - like the popcorn and cotton candy and the toys my grandpa would buy me. lol.

And you know what, I was one of those rare children who was not AFRAID of the clowns, I just didn't like them. For some reason I'm only afraid (still to this day) of clown DOLLS. Isn't that odd?? But real clowns are just whatever.


ETA - ITA about the way the animals are treated. When I was little, I LOVED animals and just thought it was awesome to be so close to them. But when I got older I began to understand that they were captive. So yeah, I don't know if this would stop me from bringing my own children to the circus or zoo in the future... but it does make me think about it

the circus freaks me out...it all seems very dirty and gritty...ew
