Anyone else hosting Thanksgiving??

Anyone else hosting Thanksgiving??

We decided to so we could be with both parents for at least one holiday (mine are in NY, his in southern VA).

Kind of worried since not sure how we'll get it all done (although we will have some help) with school, work, and DH band playing night before!

God bless you, Jean! No way! We don't even have room....I'm sure our china will be unused for awhile!

I really wanted to make it, but we are moving into our new home the week before and I do not think we will have enough furniture yet.
I have made thanksgiving for 10 people before, it is a lot of fun.

Re: Anyone else hosting Thanksgiving??

well, for starters I would make a menu

starters - cut up veggies and make knorr veggie dip.
get some cheeses, crackers and chips
make some drinks and let your DH serve while you are in the kitchen finnishing up any last minute tihngs

set the table early - DH can help with this one
serve the starters in a room other than the kitchen and dining room if possible
have nice music playing and candles to set the mood. the tv will soon be on football...

Turkey (decide whether you want to baste with orange juice, apple juice or just water) (my basic rule of thumb is every 30 minutes flip the turkey over and baste alternating with orange juice and water. You determine the cooking time and temp by the weight of the bird and your oven.

Vegies - green bean casserole, carrots and appricots, corn, pick something you like

Bread- I am of the pillburry stick in oven 15 min before sitting down to eat type

sides -
sweetpotatoes and marshmallows are always a hit (I mix a few yams into it too)
you can also serve baked potatoes for those that do not like sweetpotatoes
cranberrysauce
applesauce
salad

green jello mold (can also be a dessert)

dessert
pumpkin pie
apple pie
chocolate mousse
cookies

soda
juice
drinks
alcohol

good luck
smile and have fun

I kind of brought up the idea with DH since we are going away with his family for Christmas, I'd like to spend thanksgiving with my dad and if MIL had it at their place, my dad most likely would decline and go to my aunt's (not b/c he doesn't like my inlaws, just because he's weird. )

I am hosting Thanksgiving this year. I'll be married 8 years and this is my first Thanksgiving. We've done every other holiday so thought we should give this one a shot too.

I posted this on NWR the other day too..I have a great VERY EASY recipe for corn casserole. I make it all the time and everyone loves it!

1 can sweet corn drained
1 can creamed corn
1 box of jiffy corn muffin mix
1 cup sour cream
1/2 stick butter (I dont use the butter and it still is so good and creamy)
1 cup shredded cheese

mix the corn, jiffy, sour cream, butter together and pout into a greased pan.

cook on 350 for about 45 minutes or till golden brown on top and then sprinkle the cheese and cook for another 10-15 minutes.

As is, the recipe feeds about 8-10 people.
