Anyone else starting to freak about the biological clock?

Anyone else starting to freak about the biological clock?

Ugh...I know I'm not ready for a baby. I hardly have a desire for one yet. I guess I'm scared. Plus, I wanted to be tenured first.

But today it hit me....holy shiiiit I'm gonna be 34 this summer. I was married just a few days after I turned 33. It's starting to freak me out that I may not be ready for a child until I'm 35+.

Anyone else feeling like the clock is ticking a little too loudly? I never expected to be having kids in my mid-late 30's. It makes me feel pretty sad. Yet I know I'm not ready...

I just need support/reassurance that this will all be okay! I can't believe how hard it hit me today!!! It makes me feel sooo uncomfortable.

I am going to turn 32 in May, which is when DH and I will probably start REALLY trying, not just talking about trying!

My sis is 34 and is also taking her time...when the time is right you will know it!!

Erin

PS- Would have never guessed in a MILLION years that you are turning 34! You look freakin' awesome.

Awww Tara, I think a lot of us can empathize on this one ...

I wonder if it has something to do with the new ... that's a big factor for us before we start working on ....

Now that you guys have the house, maybe you are starting to look forward to the next step in life?

I also think, that since our generation started to establish themselves in a career first (before marriage and a family), it might only be a natural thing to not feel a need to 'enjoy married life' for an extended period of time. Especially those of us who lived together in our relationships ... for us, we lived together for years before we were engaged.

I will probably be in your same shoes once we buy a house (hopefully by the end of the year).

Re: Anyone else starting to freak about the biological clock?

It's only natural for you to feel this way now that you're married, own a house, feel comfortable in your career, etc. It's completely normal and understandable. I feel like everyone has some long-standing idea in their head about when they wanted to have kids and few of us actually stick to that for one reason or another. When we realize we're not quite where we imagined, it's easy to feel scared or disappointed in yourself.

If you don't feel like you're ready for kids, you shouldn't have them yet. I know that is easier said than done when you're feeling like maybe you'd be starting too late, but the last thing you'd want is the stress of not being 100% sure of other aspects of your life when you started to take such a big step.

Maybe one thing you could do to make yourself feel a little better is go visit your gyn and talk to him/her about your concerns. Nobody can give any of us a 100% guarantee that everything will go according to plan when the time comes but at least you could rule out any big problems - that might reassure you that you're not up against a wall.

Whenever you do decide to become a mom you're gonna be great at it. Just take your time and don't rush into it just to beat the clock

Thanks Jess....that IS part of it...I totally wanted to enjoy being married for a few years. Sometimes I get so pissed that it took this long for us to get married (we were together 5 years before)...but I know we did the logical thing (though I didn't TOTALLY agree with it ) It's just the age factor bugging me....

Thank you soooo much for your awesome advice! I know I can't rush it. It really is just the clock making me feel like this...and you totally hit the nail on the head- I definitely feel scared and disappointed in myself.

Thanks again!

Yes!! I totally am freaking out about this. I know that I am not ready yet because I still want to travel & I want to be selfish & have DH all to myself for a little while.

Anytime

I meant to add that my mom had me when she was almost 40 and that was without all the advanced technology they have today, and everything was fine. Having a doc reassure you that you're generally in good health (you certainly seem to be!) might do a great deal to make you feel better.

In the meantime you can tell the clock to shut it because 2, possibly 3 of the 4 major food groups at Yankee Stadium would be totally off limits if you were pg - beer, hot dogs and (some docs would say b/c of possible allergies) excessive quantities peanuts! How bad would that kill your game enjoyment?

I hear ya sister!

We were together for over 5 years before getting engaged, and 6 1/2 years before getting married. It totally messed with the 'life timeline' I had imagined in my head in younger years. I always thought I would be engaged by 25, married by 27, and have at least 1 kid before I'm 30. Well, we didn't get married until after I turned 30 ... and DH wondered why I was all antsy and anxious about wanting us to move forward with our relationship as the years passed and we weren't engaged yet. But, like you guys, we did the logical thing and waited until we were *both* ready ...

I think the suggestion about going to the gyn. for a consultation might be a good step to take, it might alleviate some of the stresses you could be feeling ... worries about it being more difficult once you guys are ready. And if there is something to be concerned about, then at least you'll have the knowledge and be able to confront it head-on.

hey Tara!! don't feel too pressured!!! I agree w/ the replies you've received- consult your gyno and make sure everything seems fine and I'm sure that will reassure you its ok to wait another few years. my mom had me at 36 1/2 (yes the 1/2 counts when you're closer to 40 and prego lol), she had no complications or anything. everyone has their own ideal time to have kids, and once they're here, they are your life! so its good that you're thinking ahead and not just jumping into it just b/c you feel like you should by a certain age.

I feel the same exact way. I know 32 isn't old but I feel like baby fever should be hitting me and it hasn't. I guess it will eventually. I almost feel like if I don't have any I would be happy but DH says he's definately having a kid, even if I won't have one with him - hope he was kidding

Re: Anyone else starting to freak about the biological clock?

I totally hear you on this, and i'm younger then you guys. But we will be buying a in a year or so, then i want to have at least 1 year together to travel and see a lot of stuff, at least, before we even start trying, and if the house needs work I don't want to be prenant and working on a house, so I keep having these little freak outs about how annoying time flies, and I'm not getting any younger.

And we were together 7 years before we were actually maried so I feel like we should have gotten married sooner, but then again we didn't have a lot of money when we did, and probally had no money years ago I get so upset too.

but then DH reminds me, at least we found someone to EVENTUALLY have all this with, I could be misserable and alone and get nothing for th rest of my life, so i should be greatful for what we will have

I do all the time. I turned 30 a few days after we got married and I do not have steady work. I feel like we will never be able to afford a child. It makes me really sad!!

don't stress...my SIL got married at 33...and now has 3 beautiful & healthy children....she had her last one at age 40 or 41...

Re: Anyone else starting to freak about the biological clock?

I agree with everyone-only your GYN can tell you if 35+ is good for kids. I honestly wouldn't want to start having kids after 35 only because DH would be like 41 by then and for me personally, I think its a little harder to have kiddles when you're older and hormone levels are wacky and so are energy levels. But thats JUST ME.

Your doc will know whether its right for you but DONT just have a baby to have one- you want to be able to enjoy your marriage a lil' bit and then spend time with the kiddle happily.

I feel the pressure too because I am not where I want to be in life -by 30 I wanted to be able to 'retire' from teaching temporarily afetr I was tenured at a school, so I could stay home with the kids I planned to start having...I dont see that happenign in 4 years since I wont GRADUATE till NEXT year! LOL....And since DH is older than I am and said he doesnt want kids after 40..the pressure is def on. But we can't do it right now. So I am leaving it in God's hands.

LOts of for you!
