I've been to Savannah, GA.
It is such a great city to visit. There is so much history. They have haunted tours...which I recommend. Also, take the trolley tours. They are an excellent source of local history and the drivers will be able to tell you the best places to go. Ideally, it is a place where you can spend two days or two weeks and still have a great time!
There are several characters and everyone has a story to tell. River Street is a nice place to go in the summer. They have this thing called first Saturday, or first Sunday(I would call and check)...local merchants and vendors gather on the riverfront and sell jewelry and other knick knack type of stuff.

Yabbo - LOVED that book and made me want to go as well.....
Kiblibny - I sent her an e-mail asking her to recommend some places.... She is on a business trip now, but responds to e-mail pretty frequently... I'll let you know what she says...

I visited Savannah after reading Midnight...I even visited the cemetary and my friend and I 'broke in' and went on a mad search for the Bird Girl statue. We gave up after about 2 hours. When I returned to NY, I did some research and found out they removed the statue about 2 years prior to my visit. It was still a lot of fun and a great memory.
Savannah is a beautiful little town...we only spent the afternoon there so I don't have any suggestions, but it is a lovely town.

my uncle lives there its wonderful... Def check out tybee island which is not far from savanahh, it has a great beach atmosphere
