My friend is planning her honeymoon to hawaii. They havn't decided on whoch islands they are doing or where they are staying yet or anything. But she wants to get an idea of what to budget for spending money for one week. They plan to have some nice nights out and some more casual evenings. Any ideas on how much to expect to spend?

We went to Maui and Kauai on our HM. Plan to spend a lot. I would suggest a travel agent. Our resort in Kauai was a gift from BIL and SIL for our wedding, but I think we still paid about 7-10K out of pocket.

I didn't go for my honeymoon but DH and I spent 10 days in Kona (THe Big ISland) at
It was absolutely amazings......it was all inclusive except for alcohol and everythign was fantastic. You stay in these little individual huts caled Hale's so they are very private and romantic....Our hwas facing the ocean and we had a private hot tub on our porcch!!

I think the $1000 a day is what it breaks down to total for hotel, airfare, food, etc. If you go for seven days its most likely in the end going to cost $7000. At least i think thats what the AP is saying. I can't imagine spending $1000 a day on just food and tours!
ETA: I went to the Big Island last month for work and it was really nice. I stayed at the Fairmont Orchid. I only had one day to see the island and i took a 12 hour tour called the Grand Circle Island by Polynesian tours. The tour only cost $80 and it was awesome. I saw the whole island in one day!

i go to hawaii every year to see DH's family. There is no way you need 1,000 bucks a day. I say stay away from the tourist traps and you will save money.

well 100 day car/gas...200-400-- hotel....200 a day for food/liquor...plus airfare/tours/other expenses.
It all depends on where you stay and eat!

We went to Maui and Kaui -- there is such a vast difference in price ranges depending on where you stay. In Maui, we stayed at the Kaanapali Beach Hotel, which was only abt. $200 a day, and they upgraded us to an ocean view because we were on our honeymoon. It was the best deal ever -- the hotel is on the same stretch of beach as the Hyatt, Westin, etc. The room itself wasn't fancy, but it was big and clean with a nice sized balcony. We did stay at the Hyatt in Kaui -- that was our splurge -- it was amazing, but a lot pricier. Hawaii's best kept secret for economical food -- the sushi from safeway supermarket is amazing !!!! Better than at any restaurant there, and totally affordable. Having it on our lanai with a bottle of wine was romantic and a nice break from crazy overpriced restaurants!

We went to Hawaii on our honeymoon. We took a Norwegian Cruise. It was awesome. We went to Honolulu, Maui, Kona, Hilo, and Kauai. I think it is the best way to see Hawaii. You can go on excursions on all of the islands. On two of the islands the boat stays over night so you can do long excursions. This way you don't have to take a plane to each island. Check out NCL.
