anyone going to donate tonight

i posted this on the other board..

me and DH did only $20 last year on idol gives back but this year were doing a little better and might do about $125 or something

are any of your girls going to do something??

we watched this terrible documentary on women being raped in congo and felt like idol gives back might not be sending the money there but it goes to countries with similar problems and feel we have to help somewhere

nope...Ihate American Idol...and Im sure someone will attack this but to me I would rather my money go to the poor that are struggling in our own country then send it somewhere else. I know that is an ignorant way of looking at it but that is how I feel

peggie, the donations go to poor americans too! i love that they are trying to help alllll different kinds of very needy people - all the situations are so touching.

Oh I agree that they are helping people no matter what situation-but I would prefer to give 100% to those here-it sounds selfish and stupid but that is something that gets to me for some reason. Are you sure they give to those here too-they were talking a bout this on the radio the other day and were saying that is was only going to poverty stricken countries

oh that would suck if they really didn't give to americans cuz they showed poor american kids, and even specifically mention them on the idol gives back website.

my take on it.....we are fortunate to be Americans....& if I could give to other countries in need of some serious help, I will donate to help just as I donate to help alllll the time in America.....

What I like about Idol gives back....is that it gives back to both ends of the spectrum. I don't believe that the radio or anyone for that matter really truely knows where anything goes but as long is it's going somewhere/someone who needs help,I feel a little better.

I can't look at those real videos of children in Africa suffering as well as people in New Orleans still struggling or children in the south not being able to even have enough money to buy books....& not donate because I don't like the show & that's my feelings, no one elses.

Yea that would, see-it made my head cock to the side when they said it on the radio-so I wonder...Imean I dont know for sure where it goes but for them to actually have people calling in about it made me wonder.

I think its one of those things I get caught up on b/c its so often that I change the channel as see the commercials about the poverty in other countries yet you dont hear or see anything about our own country half as often. Its almost like we want to talk about how rich we are as americans but dont want to punch the flaws...i think that reads the way I wanted it to-not sure

i hate idol too .... i never watch it, unless we are at the ILS, because MIL loves it.

personally i just feel better about giving to causes that cure diseases (especially ones that have touched my life personally, like ALS/Lou Gehrigs) than giving to poor foreign countries? and i do donate, and participate in a walk too.

i guess the way i look at it is that a disease is something that no one asked for .... and especially for the ones without a cure ... there's nothing those people can really do to help themselves. sure, they can be made more comfortable ... but they're fighting a losing battle.

when it comes to poverty ... i totally understand that the kids are helpless ... but what about the parents????
