anyone have a strained relationship with their mom?
what do you do in terms of 'spending time' with her on the weeknds?
me and my mom have a very love hate relationship... that sounds really harsh, i know... but she has a lot of personal issues that she doesnt care to handle appropriately, so this causes a HUGE strain on our relationship. when we were wedding planning, i cant tell you how MANY times we fought and fought and FOUGHT... im surprised we never got evicted from our basement apt b/c there were times i screamed so much i think the pictures on the walls rattled i cant say im proud of that, but i just lose it sometimes
so given that, if my mom is having 'off' days, i literally just go by there one day on the weekend and stay for about 30 minutes then leave... but when shes in a good mood, we go shopping, run errands, go see my gma etc. sometimes i really cant bare to be there for more than 10 mins, but i feel bad so i suuck it up
just wondering if anyone else is in the same boat as me
ETA: please dont quote this...i will be taking it down!!!

Yeah, my mom is a tad on the crazy side. Luckily she doesn't live here, but she visits often. She tends to rewrite history and imagine things that never happened. She also gets very depressed in the middle of a seemingly good day. She shops doctors so that she can get as many meds as possible.
Needless to say, it makes quality time anything but. I try really hard to spend qt with her, I bring her to run errands, etc...we take day trips into Manhattan, but it is exhausting to keep from running away screaming.
I feel your pain.

I have a somewhat strained relationship with my mother. While we have a strained realtionship she's still the person I run to during my toughest times. My mother is my worst critic fromm my weight , to my living situation, to everything. She almost never seems happy and tries to push me to do what she wants for my life. That honeslty keeps me at bay from seeing her and by extension my dad. Curetnly I only see my parents once a week and I try to call everyday, but a lot of the time when I call I encounter a guilt trip or some sort of arguement, so it makes me keep my conversations brief and the information I give vague.
It's really ard becasue like I said she's my worst critic but the person that I run to during my roughest times.

Sometimes I want to punch her out, does that count as strained?

As difficult as it is, enjoy your moms while you can. I'd give anything to have mine back.

DH lost his too so it does really make me try and have more patience. As annoying as she is sometimes, losing her would be devastating.

It's been 4.5 years and I still miss her so much, especially when I'm home and having my afternoon coffee. That was our time.

My mom tells me that all the time. As frustrating as she can be I can't imagine not having her and dread the day she's gone.

I can relate to the weight part - my mom used to harp on me to lose weight all the time. I used to tell her whatever, that I was fine the way I was (and still am) and go on my merry way. She used to yell at me to put shoes on - I have a habit of going barefoot around the house and around the yard - that I'd get arthritis in my feet. I be like, yeah ok whatever. Guess what ? Mom was right. I've got arthritis in my left foot and really can't wear heels anymore. That really bites.
So as much as your moms make you crazy, and there are bad days and good days, take them as you can. Make the best of the good days.
