Anyone have eczema

I have dry skin that gets red and itchy. Dont mind so much on my body but I get it on my face as well. Right now its on my eyelids and chin. Needless to say I cant wear makeup when its like this

Just curious is anyone else has this problem and what you do for some relief?

I have it only on my hands. I went to a dermatologist, she gave me a perscription steroid cream . She also suggested a hand cream calle cerava. She said the best one is the mousterizing cream. I could not find it at a local store. I found it at drugstore.com though.

be careful with what creams you use on your eyelids...I know cortisone can't be used near the eyes. Are you sure it's eczema? I thought I had it too but it turned out I was allergic to the the soap I was using. The eyes are the most sensitive area of the face and usually show signs of allergic reactions sooner than other areas. Either way, my advice is go to a dermatologist for treatment.

Actually a few years ago I discoverd I was allergic to sulfates in all soaps and shampoos! I switched to mosty Burts Bees products.

But my eyelids are doing the same itchy dry thing now so it may just be from allergy season.

Just curious, what do you use for soap on your face?

The best thing to do is go to the dermatologist.

I have Psoriasis and it stinks. But you can go to a derm for help!

yes, i have gotten it on my eyelids before. make an appt w/ your derm, and ask for ARISTOCORT. There is a generic version called triamcinolone. its a steroid cream, and i swear by it. it will give you so much relief and clear it up in a day or 2.

I use Aveeno Ultra-Calming Foaming Cleanser. It's supposed to reduce redness and and calm irritated skin. It's great for taking off eye makeup too, because I'm sensitive to makeup removers too.

I get it on my hand & legs... I scratch until i bleed.. I have a prescription for my hand and the DR told me to try Sarna lotion on my legs but I haven't been to the drugstore since to buy it..

I have psoriasis. Try Sarna (the one for sensitive skin) - the other one is great for other areas but on your face it might be too much - it has eucalyptis in it and it might burn your eyes. Another good one is Moisturel. I've seen both at CVS but you may have to go to target or a good pharmacy -- like a surgical supply place or a store with pharmacy in the name - like stewart's in massapequa or cottage in woodbury ..

good luck!

I wonder if we are allergic to the same thing... Do shampoos irritate you too?

Most commercial shampoos and soap contain sodium lauryl sulfates which are harsh detergents that you are sensitive to. They are used in these products because they clean and are cheap to manufacture.

Companies like: Burts Bees, Aubrey Organics, EO, John Masters, Jason, Hugo & etc use less harsh cleansers (that are usually naturally occurring) that people with sensitive skin can tolerate.
More mainstream lines like Aveeno & Almay have nice products that may be easily tolerate. Also handmade soaps that contain ingredients like goats milk, olive oil and sheeps milk may be used - check with the individual creator for other ingredients.

Re: Anyone have eczema

My little sister has it, she gets it around her scalp, her cheek and near her belly button.

My mom took her to a homeopathic doctor, he told her to put papaya skin on her skin when she gets a break out and so far its helped control the itching and the hive like spots.

She also had to do some adjustments with her diet (almost vegetarian like lifestyle and lots of organic products).

I have eczema and I find that using a very gentle saop without fragrance (baby soap) and cool water helps. Clean make-up brushes often, and use a light weight moisturizer with an SPFof 15 or higher. hope it works
