anyone have the toyota PRIUS??

we currently have a '91 toyota camry... YES its still alive, but I dont know for how much longer lol.

Even though we are already tight on money we realize that we might need to get a new car soon... we are looking at the PRIUS becasue of its gas mileage, etc.

Does anyone have this car? Do you recommend it? ANY feedback would be awesome.

Also, if anyone else has a car thats really fuel efficient and does cost TOO much... can you recommend? ( We are looking for an efficient car, DOES NOT have to be flashy)

ETA: sorry guys my hubby said it was the PRIUS not the yaris.... im such a idot lol. ( cant keep us with all these wierd names!)

Re: anyone have the toyota YARIS??

I don't have any personal experience with it but my mom is looking into a yaris because she has a few friends that drive one and rave about it.

my sister has one and it is a great little car. She gets great gas milage and when she fills up its like $20 bucks. Nice ride and great mileage.

Re: anyone have the toyota PRIUS??

DH and I looked into the Pruis in September when gas prices were CRAZY high. He did some calculations based on the increased cost of the Prius compared with similar models (not hybrid) of cars. He did the assumption that gas prices were $4-5 (DH is a math whiz)...and it would take about 10 years for the Prius to pay off, in terms of not paying for as much gas.

There are also some issues that are unknown with hybrids, such as battery life (and cost of replacement)--they may have some better ideas about that now, since it's been out for a while.

We ended up with a Toyota Corolla and we love it. We get 35 mpg and it's a fun car to drive. Also, Toyota has a great reputation for reliability (since it was replacing a 14 year old car, that was important to us)

Thank you so much for the reply... i get your point about the car being more expensive than non-hybrids...

We are thinking to go to the dealer tomorrow and look at hybrids and non hybrids. SO confused, lol

We dont have one but when we rent a car we always ask for the Prius, its a GREAT car. It takes some getting use to, DH had trouble starting the car because we're impatient. You have to push the button and wait like 5 seconds and the starts. Its super quiet. We wish it was a bit cheaper because we would have gotten one.

We rented it on our honeymoon and I loved it!!!! DH drove it and said it was very easy to drive and as a passenger, it ws very comfy.

It had a very small trunk so for a day to day car, we'd be miserable b/c we need more room. Also, DH is 5'9' and he was very close to the roof so he felt a little tight there.

oh wow, thats a very good point... thanks for mentioning that....my husband is 6'2 so I doubt he would even fit in it! LOL, thanks for giving us the heads up. I guess the PRIUS is a NO GO.

We'll keep looking....

Any more car reccomendations would be very much appreciated!!!!!!! (Something low cost, fuel efficient)
