I'm so depressed. I feel like NOTHING we have is ours b/c we need so much help right now. I wish that we could just move into our OWN place and call it a day.

Re: Anyone having trouble....
Yes, its very hard!! DH and I have been going to open houses the past three weekends, and its going to take a LONG time to find the right place for us. Its all about deciding what you want your sacrafices to be. By going further east, you are going to be able to get more house for your money. But if you work in the city (like we do) you will have a longer commute. The good news is, the housing market is definitely getting better for buyers. A house we saw three weeks ago was listed on the info sheet for $379,000.. they had crossed that out and wrote in $349,000. I saw that same house in the paper yesterday for $325,000!! Soo... don't give up hope... we thought it was hopeless but decided we will do what it takes to be able to own something. We are paying so much money in rent, its disgusting! I can bear to throw away that much money every month anymore!

Re: Anyone having trouble....
It is extremly difficult to find the right house for you and in your price range. I started getting depressed looking for a house as well... It took me and DH a while to find some place that was right for us. We final found a condo and bought that. It was the best choice for us, right price and almost everything was brand new.
Try to stay positive and just keep looking. I know you and DH will find something just right for you.
Good Luck!!

I don't think we'll ever find a house on LI. And we've both got great jobs.

yup us too. I wouldnt say we have high paying jobs (teacher and fireman) but we should be able to afford a house. We have 2 children and only about 10 thousand saved Part of me wishes we had done the destination wedding that we wanted and then we would have thousands more
But the wedding was fun too

Re: Anyone having trouble....
I live in Westchester and we bought a house before the wedding. I'm glad we did because we could not afford our house now if we tried to buy it. The townhouses in my complex have gone up over $100,000 in the last 2 years!!!!

We bought our house 2 years ago but the market is slowing down in Long Island recently. (finally) I love our house now but its not my dream house or ideal house to raise a family in so we will probably be heading south within the next 5 years. Check out MLSLI.COM. That site gives you access to all the houses for sale on long island, regardless the realtor.
