Anyone in the D.C area?

Hey girls,

My DH was asking me what I would like for my birthday this year and I was thinking about it...and I would love to go sight seeing in washington DC. We were supposed to go for our senior trip in high school but couldn't because that is when the terrorist attacks occurred!

So anyways...hotel recommendations? where to sight see? restaurants?

BTW my birthday is May 12th
thank you!

I lived in the DC area for three years. It's absolutely gorgeous this time of year. You'll want to see all the historic sites (Washington Monument, Jefferson Memorial, Lincoln Memorial) but also hang out in places like Georgetown, Dupont Circle or Adams Morgan for the night life

On the Virginia side, see Arlington Cemetary and visit Old Town Alexandria, it's very romantic and scenic.

Getting around DC is great with the metro, at the time I lived there you could get a whole day pass for $5 for unlimited rides. I'm sure it's more now (that was 6 years ago) but it's probably your best deal.

COOKIEMONSTER is also a DC area resident, but I haven't seen her posting in sooooo long. Miss that girl, she's so SWEET. Cookie if you're lurking come back and play with us!!!

DC is GORGEOUS this time of year. My last trip we stayed at the Hotel Rouge, its a Kimpton boutique hotel, a little over the top on the theme but the location was great. Kimpton has quite a few hotels in DC, here's a link, sometimes you can get AWESOME packages so take a look:

Have fun, you'll definitely have a great time. I second Georgetown, there are some fantastic clubs and cafes, perfect for a sunday brunch if that's on your agenda!!

ETA: if you are coming down here for more than a few days you should totally consider a side trip to Baltimore... its one of my favorite little cities in the country, which is why i moved there

I was just going to mention Cookie (Jenn) Colette. Wonder how she is doing. She's funny as hell. Miss her around here.

i go to dc every year of not a few times a year. Its just an amazing city to spend time in. YOU HAVE TO GO TO FADO irish pub in china town. Some great times there. Do not waste the time to go to the aqarium - do baltimore instead. Smithsonians are free so spend the money on a hotel near the sites.
