no, but it sounds like it would be fun! One of my professors was a retired pre-school teacher, and she always seemed to be so happy.
Maybe you could try calling some local pre-schools and asking what credentials they need to be able to open. You could even pretend you're a parent looking to enroll your child.

yeah, that's what I was going to say.... NYS and the dept of ed.... I'm sure there's a lot of licensing involved... after all, it's a school, which is a step above day care....

I'm actually looking to open one up in North Carolina! There's actually no pre-schools there. I mean they have them within the daycares but none that are strictly a pre-school, where you send your kid there to learn not to be babysat! My parents said they'd help us with the funding so my dream might just become a reality!!

Check out the website for NAEYC (National Association for Early Childhood Education). They are the primary authority in the field and publish a lot of great resource pamphlets and books.

You're welcome!

I'm a preschool director at a small non-profit, but I've never opened a school on my own. North Carolina might be a good place, because the costs in NY (rent, insurance, salaries, etc) are pretty high.

yes, i was going to suggest this as well. any pre-school worth their 'salt' has been given accrediation by NAEYC. in addition, you as the director and your teachers should hold degrees in Early Childhood education. A certain percentage of the staff must have this degree and certification for it to be propperly licensed by the state. teacher aides and assistants don't need a degree, but should have at least some college credits in early childhood education (usually an associates).

GOOD LUCK!

I've taught pre-school. please FM if you have questions.
