Anyone mail their application for a new Social security card?
I mailed the application and my passport a few weeks ago. I just got the new card in the mail but no passport. DH thinks it could come separately? Does anyone know?

I didn't know you could mail it in, I thought you needed to appear in person for a new SS card. I would def call your local office and ask them about getting your passport back.

I went today for a new SS card. They looked over the information and had me sign a paper. They said it would be in the mail within 2 weeks. Only took three minitues.

ugh...i have to go the the SS cneter in Jamaica, Queens for mine.....its gunna SUCK!!

It took not even 10 minutes, and I went to SS in Long Beach. DIdn't bother sending anything

did you get ur passport back yet?? I was thinking of doing it the way you did it.. and now im worried it will be more drama then its worth hope u did get it back by now

Not yet Its tricky, I sent it to an address thats like 5 miles away from us here in Maryland and got the card mailed from Baltimore. So DH said they probably type the info in at our local office, they get it in Baltimore, send the card and its the local office's responsibility to mail it back... does that make sense?
Im going to call them tomorrow from work, I will update you!

oh no! any word yet?
i figured im goign to chance it , can't be that bad right? once i get my duplicate licences in the mail i can do this.. im not traveling out of the country for at least 1 year so i should be ok!
keep me updated on what they say though... i really want to know why one takes so much more time

i took off this thursday to try and do it.
i tried to go to the ss office in the city and the wait was an hour and a half!

you can get the application online... at www.ssa.gov but mine was mailed to me with my marriage cert...

I am not very informed about any of this... My name wasn't changed on my marriage license, because I want both my name and DH's name as my last name, so I still need to change it.... Can I do this online or do I need to go to an office?

Can I go to any Soc. Security office in NY? The address they have on file for me is my parents LI address. Someone told me the Freeport office is closed - anyone know if that is true???
Can someone tell us where the Long Beach office is located...thanks!
