i have a son from a previous marriage. dh wants to adopt him (my son's dad is a dead-beat). we're going to start the paperwork for that in january. i didn't want to change my name until we ALL have the same last name.
is anyone else not changing their name right away?

Re: anyone not changing name right away????
me! we've been married over a year, and i still haven't changed my name... LOL and i don' t have a really legitimate reason, either- i just don't like how DHs last name sounds with my first name- LOL and everyone that hears it is on m side i'm sure i'll change it once we have kids to avoid confusion at school and stuff... but for now, i'm keeping my last name

thank goodness, i'm not alone.... i HATE dh's last name. i'm hispanic, with a VERY hispanic name... he's of POLISH desent. the combination of the two $UCK$ bigtime!!!!! so, i'm in no hurry.
i'm using the adoption as my 'legitimate' excuse to postpone it.

Because of financial reason's I'm not changing my name either. My DH is on diability and I don't want to run the risk of ruining his insurance because they would make me put him on my crappy insurance. You can still legally sign your name with his last name but for finanical and legal documents use your maiden name. Less problems.

I have been married 4.5 months and I have not changed my name ANYWHERE! I am in total denial that I am losing my name and I am holding out as long as I can.

I've been married 2 months and I haven't done it yet. It's mostly because I'm lazy.

I just changed it the other day at SS after 6 months but I still have to do it everywhere else. I don't know why I waited, just laziness I guess

If you're married, you're married. You are already running a risk if there's something you are claiming entitlement to and you are not supposed to. Last names don't really change the situation very much except that MAYBE you have bought more time before it catches up to you.
At any rate, I did not change my name either, for a variety of reasons.
