My DH has a laptop that has a lot of info on it. It crashes often and when it is sent in for service, he loses everything.
Instead of saving his files to disks, is there something I can buy like a program or an external hard drive that I can periodically update his files on in case he loses his info again??
Thanks

Re: Anyone suggest something to back-up files???
I'd definitely suggest an external hard drive. If you have an anti-virus program (like McAfee) they usually have an option where you can periodically back up your files to the external drive.

I'm having similar problems with my computer. Why not burn the files to CD-ROMs? You can indeed get an external hard drive, but its function is more for additional storage space. It's the less cost efficient method, although a valid one. Good luck.

Re: Anyone suggest something to back-up files???
I have all of my files saved onto my computer and to my external hard drive. I try to backup my files every other week. If anything goes wrong with my laptop, I know that all of my files are safe on my external drive. People also use it as extra storage space, but I use mine to make sure all of my files are safe (I've had too many times where I've lost all of my documents, pictures, etc)!
CDs are a good idea too, but I would just be nervous that they might get scratched/broken too easily

My bro is a computer geek and he has his own server. Every week, we bring our laptop to him to back up our important files. Before that, we used to save everything on a disk.

make a complete copy of the c drive on an external harddrive. Don't bother messing with a mountin of CDs or DVD's.... the external drive copies everything.
After you copy everything, do a spyware and antivirus scan (with the computer off the net), and then vacuum the fans.... most computer problems are due to either virus/ spyware infections, or simply the CPU overheating from dirt clogging the vents.
if it still doesn't work, send it out for servicing....
