Anyone work for USPS??

I'm ecstatic. I got an email for an interview for a mail carrier. I've been trying to get in forever. Does anyone know what this 'pre screen interview' is about??? I have to call out of work so I can go because it says it can be up to 6 hours. I just hope I get an offer because I can't call out everytime I get an interview. Any info would be great!!

My husband is a mail handler. He said that he had to take a test and then he was given a PTF position and then became a regular.

The PO is a hard field to get into right now. Mail is a dying breed due to people paying their bills online! My father is about to retire as a letter carrier after 41 years and says all the time it is not what it used to be.

I actually got a notice my FIL got from a friend who works for post office saying that there are exam openings. So I applied online last february and got a scheduled exam day and a practice booklet....took the test last many. scored a 78.4 (which is supossedly good, the highest score is 84 or so in US) and they're supossed to contact you for an interview, however, they sent me a new letter like 4 months ago saying that they have a new thing where you apply online and put in your passing exam code....ive seen a few full time openings around my town so i applied for one the next town over I saw and got an email for an interview...you can apply for other postitions besides a carrier but they are in demand the most...i havent seen many other openings for anything besides a carrier...im just nervous, ive been looking up info and people say they hate it and you get treated like a slave, but the pay and benefits are great

Re: Anyone work for USPS??

DH works for the USPS. He said the 'pre-interview' takes that long because they have a bunch of new hires there and they take each person aside one by one for a short interview. He said they will also probably have you watch all the typical HR videos that any new job makes you watch. According to him, if you got this far they are hiring you, but he was hired 4 years ago, so I can't say for sure it is the same now. Good luck!
