Soooo we are meeting with the Broker and the owner again tonight...my only concern is that he really only came down 100.00 in price and DH and I want to get him down another 100.00. Apparently the broker tells us that there is a single girl who was looking and going to pay him the amount he wanted but he felt more comfortable with us being a couple and liked us...i can't tell if this is BS or if it is legit because the place is so beautiful I am afraid to let it go! Do you think we should still try to negotiate with him tonight?? ?

it's very possible and the whole thing about them preferring a married couple makes sense. I was told the same thing, one owner told me he had 30 couples seeing the place over the weekend but asked if i can come at 9am before any other person look at the apartment bc he would prefer a married couple to take it. He said somehow all the other couples were just bf and gf or a single person, and if he had to pick he would pick a married couple.
Since he seems to have a preference with a married couple, maybe it gives you room to negotiate.

The broker knows how anxious we are to get this place so I am a little hesitant when he told me that they ran this girls credit and all and she panned out, but they never asked us anything or to run anything for that matter...so I am like is there really another girl or does that give me some room to negotiate??

If the apartment is really nice and it is worth what they are asking then I wouldnt risk losing it even if they are b-s'ing. In this economy i'd be happy with the $100 he came down.

I agree with a pp try and get him down $50- the broker works for the owner so tell them you looked at a couple other places, so if this doesnt work out, its ok.
realistically, apartments are hot now, so he probably does probably have a flood of people- all those people who are getting foreclosed on need somewhere to live- very sad
