Asked if I was pregnant

Asked if I was pregnant

PJ and I went to eat with some friends last night...we had a great time....but my friend came right out and asked if I was Pregnant! My eyes nearly bugged out of my head. I just never thought about being asked that ....I was almost flattered though...is that weird?

I love the idea of getting pregnant so much but I know it is definitely not the right time.

Is anyone else feeling torn about having a baby like this?

$ wise we cannot do it...plus I want to travel so much
still I have this ache about being a mommy... advice or thoughts?

Re: Asked if I was pregnant

While I haven't been asked, most of my friends and family know that we (especially me, wants to wait)

I'm certainly looking forward to the days of being a mom, but right now I feel like there's so much out there that I have yet to see, and DH is my perfect travel companion.

Don't know if I came close to offering you any kind of helpful words....but you have to stick with your gut.

I dont know if I would be flattered that someone came out and asked me if I was PG, I think I would be offended, like if I gained weight or something that I would 'look' PG to be asked that.

Def do whats in your heart. If you are not ready thats ok, take your time. You will be a wonderful mommy if its in 9 months or 2 years.

i am in the same boat.

we want a baby in a big way, but know its better to wait. i have to keep telling myself 'There is no rush. There is no rush.' Cause once they come, there is no turning back!

When the urge gets real strong i call my girlfriend who just had a baby. She loves her child, but feels overwhelmed and emotional and part of her felt like she was not totally 'ready.' This sets things in perspective. Especially when i hear the baby screaming and hear how tired she is - i will love my child one day, but the thought of dealing with a screaming infant right now makes me realize I'm not REALLy ready.

I know I would be pissed, thinking they were implying I looked fat!

My ILs are the only ones who ever ask when we are planning on having a baby.

To answer your question, I know I want a baby some day, but you can't go back once you have one, and I know there is so much I want to do before we seriously think about it. I want to travel and have DH all to myself for a few years before having that 24/7 commitment. My parents had their first alone vacation when I was 12 and my brother 15 (we were away at camp). 15 years without a vacation for the two of them! I know that's how I will be like too (I never even wanted someone else minding my cat), so I am not torn at all since I know there is so much I want to see and do before TTC.

no no...i honestly dont think she meant that i looked fat....i think it was more of a timing/ glow/ announcement dinner...since I called her to get everyone together

but we told them we have a 2 year plan so def. wont be making plans anytime soon

I guess Im confused- when it comes to planning a family, I feel torn between my head and my heart

I wish I had friends or family with a newborn so I could get a feel...I havent babysat for more than an hour so I dont even know if Ill be a good mom

This makes is worse IMO. I have 7 neices and nephews. My godaugher just turned 1 and my SIL is pregnant again. When the others were born I was excited and such. But now its different. When my neice comes to me and I am feeding or changing her I can seriously picture myself as a mom. Before I never could ( I wasnt married, didnt have a house, etc) Now that I am where I feel I should be and I know we can afford the day care or me working PT and we have our family who is eager to help, its getting harder to fight the baby urges (for me at least DH has not yet gotten bit by that bug)

A Part of me says why wait, you are never ready, you have never done all you want to do etc. I would Love to have a baby. But the other part of me wants to have some more time for DH and myself, loves my current freedom and wants a few more vacations under my belt.

ETA: You will be a good mom when the time is right and you are ready to put yourself aside for your child. Being around infants my whole life has not left me any more reassured that I will be a good mom because honestly all the children I have been around have always gone home!!
Once you have a child it is there to stay forever!

I can't wait... I think if we had the space and the money it wouldn't be an issue!!! I'd like to try in June when we go on our 'second' honeymoon but we shall see... I also came off the pill (not on purpose, ran out!) and even though I am going to get a new prescription I'm not sure that I am going to start taking them yet... might just do a 'not trying but whatever happens happens' type of attitude... we shall see!!

Re: Asked if I was pregnant

I know how you feel this has happened to me on several occassions. On Christmas eve MIL offered me a glass of wine and i said no, well the first question out of her mouth was why is there something you need to tell us? I couldnt believe it. Then DH was on the phone with his grandma in florida and told her i didnt feel well that i was nausea etc, and she said 'is she pregnant?' I guess everyone assumes now that your married your either trying to or not using as many precacuations. It really stinks though that you have to watch what you say to people
