I just threw out a ton of clothes to pair down. I feel sick. Some of these items still had their tags on them. I did it b/c I hadn't worn them since I bought them; some of this stuff more than 5 years ago. If I havent' worn it in 5 years, I probably never will. RIght?

Re: at what point do you throw out clothes?
I go through our closet every six months.......throw out the unsalvageable, give the rest to charity. It works for us I have items with tags on them still, but if they haven't been worn in 6 mths, then I'm probably NOT going to wear them

I used to keep things forever because I never had the money for new clothes.
When DH and I started dating seriously he really helped me update my wardrobe and I'm so grateful to him for that.
Now I throw away clothes as soon as they look worn or out of style. I try to buy stuff that will stay in style but it's hard sometimes

once a year I go through everything winter and summer clothes. Usually my throw away pile consists of 4 things. Even if I don't fit into clothes I keep them thinking that either I'll fit into them again or I'll get them taken in.

Re: at what point do you throw out clothes?
I'm having this problem right now because I have too much stuff and not enough space for it all so I need to get rid of a bunch of clothes, shoes, and accessories... it's hard!!! Some of it is really nice but I just don't have the room for it all so I'm going to give it to charity. I'm getting rid of the stuff I never really wear, doesn't fit right, or that I just don't like all that much, or isn't comfortable. Plus I have to get rid of a few pairs of pants that are starting to look worn out.

I only throw away clothes with holes or really bad stains or whatever. the rest I donate. Even if I don;t like it anymore, some person who can;t afford clothing may appreciate it. This is expecially true of work clothes.

we sort through stuff about twice a year. I pitch old shoes and worn clothes, and donate clothes that are still in good shape.
we're rather disciplined about it becuase we live in a small apartment, and don't want to trip over anything non-essential
