I have a question. I grew up in Queens, so I'm not sure if there is anything I will be doing wrong here. We're having a Surprise 60th for my MIL here at our house, expecting 45-50 adults and 12 children. I can imagine the cars that are going to be parked all over the place. Do I slip a note into my neighbors mailboxes a day or 2 before the party saying 'please excuse us' kinda thing ? Is there any polite way to forewarn the neighbors and kinda say 'thanks for understanding?'. I've seen homes with 5-6 cars around them, but this might be more like 15 or more cars I imagine. Any advice ?
Thanks!

Re: Backyard BBQ / Party Etiquette - HELP
I think the note will definitely help....Is there a parking lot nearby at a VFW or community center that u can use? ( that way the surprise won't be blown by all the parked cars)

Re: Backyard BBQ / Party Etiquette - HELP
Well my MIL thinks its my nieces birthday party at my house (because my sis is 8m prego and I said I would have it for her) so the cars wont be a give away :) As far as a parking lot, there are none nearby. Just homes, homes and homes !!
I think i'll do the note.
Thanks!

Definitely a note or stopping by your immeditae neighbors homes to let them know is very considerate -- and most likely none of them will mind. We've all been there before.

Also maybe you can stress Car Pooling on the invitations so it will cut down on the number of cars parked on your street.
