Bad gift spinoff

Bad gift spinoff

What did you do with the gifts that you didn't like.

We got that plate I posted about on the other thread and I couldn't tell you where it came from in a million years in order to return it. I feel so bad throwing gifts out, no matter how heinous...

What did you do with that stuff?

we threw out one thing- a small, ugly picture frame from DH's office--actually it is in a pile to go to to MIL's garage sale.

We got an ugly shower presesnt, an pie plate with a lid that looks like apple pie, that I tried to give to my mom , but I think she left it with the things she is holding for me ( like the good China)

we got a few things from the shower that I couldn't return so I offered them up to friends that just moved in together or gave them as wishing well gifts (pizza cutters, garlic presses, cheap cutting boards, ultimate chopper, mini ice bucket, picture frames, spatula's, cheap steak knives, etc...)

Our friends were more than grateful for them.

I only threw out one thing - this heinous picture frame that DH's uncle gave us. It was fake wood with with these crappy colored plastic 'jewels' all over it. It looked like he got it from a dollar store.

The other stuff is either in the pantry, or stacked up on this overhang ledge that we have in our bedroom.

I started a tradition a few years ago with my friends. They all bring stuff they have around the house, or got as gifts that they want to get rid of and we get together and trade it. If there is stuff left over, I offer to take it all to the Salvation army thrift store. Sometimes it is good stuff that you just can't or don't use, and sometimes there are hysterical things in the pile. It also makes for a fun get together.

Friends of ours were planning for a long time to have a party where everyone would bring their worst wedding gift and we would swap (similar to dpli). But it never happened, so we gave it to Goodwill.

Usually I keep stuff stashed because I feel bad about getting rid of it. But once a year I give stuff to Sal. Army, so I get rid of it then.

I think i'm going to try and sell some especially ugly gifts on ebay over the summer.

We received plastic dishes, with matching plastic cups, a plastic tray and matching utensil holder (no plastic utensils) - think outdoor bar-b-q type of stuff - all with a rainbow pattern on it.......yup -went to good will- the stuff never even left the boxes.

we also received a pewter dish (i suppose for salad, not sure), with matching fork and spoon (also pewter) - think oversized fork and spoon that were haning in everybody's kitchen in the 1970s = and we returned it and got a credit for a store that does not even exist in ny. we tried to give the store credit to my mother-in-law, but she refused......so, we ended up throwing away the credit b/c we never found anything in the store or in their catalog.

i like the idea of a trade-off...

I try REALLY hard to find where the gift originated from. But, there are some that I can't identify, so they're sitting on the bottom of my pantry.

Maybe you unknowingly limited your guest list to people with good taste

Re: Bad gift spinoff

we did not get any gifts we did not like. Maybe less our taste or less usefull than things on our registry not bought, but nothing we did not like.

Only one gift was a matching gift.

Oh though we got pots and pans that are ok, but I would have rather something better. Don't know what we will do about that.
