anyone know of famous, semi famous, or once famous bands that tend to play smaller venues?? Please share.
Thanks!

Re: bands...
alot of rock bands like playing smaller venues. Ive seen some bands at Roseland ballroom which is considered a smaller venue. Ive seen linkin park play there, Hoobastank, blindside, Greenwheel. Infact when I saw Hoobastank they were on a small venue tour.
But lots of rock bands play there and also irving plaza and a few other places. I know Taproot also does this, deftones

Re: bands...
Twister Sister They play sometimes as 'Bent Brother' its kinda funny actually. Local venues have gotten pretty lame- you might get lucky at the Donkey once in a while but since the Downtown closed alot of quasi famous and on the brink bands stopped coming to LI
Its sad actually- we used to be popping!!!
I guess the same could be said for CBGBs

thanks guys. A smaller venue on LI (hint already been said somewhere above LOL) asked DHs band to play a show in the future and to give a list of bands they want the venue to try to get to play with them. I would say the venue holds under 300 people roughly. but they want someone with a name that would fill the place.

oh so now your husband has to get them to play.
Ok another real small venue i've been to and LOTS of rock bands play there all the time is birch hill in NJ, just look at their past dates and see whose played there. Most bands who have played there will be willing to do a small venue. Also check out irving plaza and roseland.

oh another small venue ive been to see shows at is Starland ballroom in NJ. See their list of upcoming shows

They are looking for more rock, hip hop, pop rock, metel types of bands. Pretty open!
Denise, thanks for listing that venue- I'll see who they have had too!!! i ahve a decent list so far. you have to figure that 80% of the people I list wont do that small and then 10% will turn it down, and then 5% will want too much money. LOL. Sop hopefully 5% of them will be worth looking into to!

Re: bands...
sometimes it will surprise you. ALot of rock bands like doing small venues here and there bc they like to be about the fans and more of the intimate rock show type thing. When i saw LP at smaller venue it was after their 2nd album so after they blew up, same with some other bands too. Even SOAD and staind had done roseland ballroom, deftones, taproot all did it after they got bigger. Problem is how much they would ask for though lol
but i think a new band that is gaining ALOT of popularity right this moment will be good. They are more willing to do it and will do it for less. Usually rock bands when they start out they do small venue tours so its something they will currently be doing anyways.
even bands that you dont normally hear on real popular radio stations, ALOT of them will have great followings and you will have all their fans who will travel to see them. So also go to MB's of bands that dont have real big fame on pop stations and all that but a big following, it will give you a better idea.
For example ive seen blindside 4x and wherever they played they had a huge following and you would see the same fans at every show, they went nuts for them

Check out the bands that Alt Nation on Sirius Radio play. The bands are typically bands that are bigger in the UK but trying to get bigger here in the states so they will play smaller venues. Kings of Leon for instance is HUGE in the UK but here not so much. I saw them in Philadelphia at a venue called the Electric Factory, the place was small enough that anywhere you sat was good seats.

Re: bands...
Gina, check out mulcahy's website - they always have famous acts there. I have seen fuel there as well as Edwin McCain, Jani Lane of Warrant (wouldn't recommend it, he's GROSS now) and ... someone else big. Can't remember who! But Gov't Mule used to play there alllll the time and they still get pretty big names to play there everyone once in a while.

I was just going to say, didn't Stained do Roseland not too long ago. Actually, didn't U2 do a special performance a couple of years ago at Roseland too (not that I'm suggesting trying to get them )?
