BC Patch

I had read about the birth control patch, but didn't think it was available to the public...I went to the GYN hoping to get the Depo shot...so I didn't have to worry about BC...I hate taking the pills...well the GYN recommended the patch...its fabulous...slap it on your heinie and forget about it for a week!!

I have told DH it is his responsibility to remind me to change it on Sundays...

I'm loving it...

Re: BC Patch

Just curious...how does it make you feel? I am wondering b/c I have had negative experiences with pills in the past, and I am wondering if this [the patch] is an option for me. Obviously, I realize that everyone's body reacts differently to hormones, but I am curious. Do you feel emotionally or physically different?

Re: BC Patch

I heard that it could fall off and if you arent aware of it, you could get pregnant...is that true?

I am going to get it too on my next gyn visit. Can't wait! I had heard it may cause sensitivity to the skin. Do you have any?

Re: BC Patch

I've seen the ads and have been so tempted to switch to this patch. But I don't know... It's good to hear you like it, that's encouraging. The reason I want off my old pills is because I believe they are the reason for my moodiness, my low sex drive, etc. As a newlywed, that's unfair. Plus we want to wait until next summer to TTC. So I'm looking. Hubby just said to stop the pills and get my body back to normal, but I can just imagine getting pregnaant before we want to....

If any one else does the patch, let me know if you experience side effects!!

Re: BC Patch

I'm intrigued. I just started seeing ads for it. I've been on the pill for years and never had any problems with it, but the patch seems so convenient.

Erica - lt us know how it goes. Does it really stay on well for a week?

Its it more expensive than pills? -does your insurance cover it?

Re: BC Patch

OK...I'll try to anser the questions

they say that only 3% came partially off in their test studies...so far one week and not one little bit has come up...you should put it somewhere that doesn't move a lot...like not a joint

no irritation yet...I'm a little nervous taking it off though...like a band-aid...

I was getting incredibly moody on the pill...and I would forget to take them and then get sick when I took 2...well the hormones are the same everyweek...so after the first week...no mood swings what so ever...

They give you an extra patch in case one falls off...I usually pass over it in the shower and say 'Hey its still on!' If it comes off for a day (or you forget to change it by one day) they say you are still protected (like the pill)...when you get to 2 days they suggest using another form of BC for 7 days...with the pill its the next month...

no weight gain yet (but I'm actively trying to lose, so that might be the reason)

Re: BC Patch

DH and I saw the commercial on this yesterday and we were dicussing it. It is interesting to hear someone's real life experience with it.

So you haven't experienced any side effects?

Re: BC Patch

I used the Nicoderm patch to quit smoking - I have NO idea if the actual patch is similar, but the nicoderm one could easily pull off during swimming, etc. I'd be so afraid to trust something like that for BC! I guess it stays on pretty securely though?

Re: BC Patch

I've been using the patch for since November and I've had no problems or pregnancies. Sometimes it gets a little itchy, but it has not fallen off at all. I was even in a hot tub with it and it stayed on fine (loosened a little, but then I just pressed it and it sealed right up.) I like it so far, even though I find my 'monthly friend' is a little heavier, but not excessively and I have mild cramps beforehand. IMO, it's much better than taking the pill.

Re: BC Patch

Mary - why better? because of convenience? do you have less side effects?

I think its a great concept. But I've never had any problems on the pill so I don't know if its worth switching.

Re: BC Patch

I wore the patch for 2 months- to avoid AF during my wedding and HM. It is super easy, same exact side effects as regular BC pills, and doesn't come off unless you take it off. If you want to take BCPs I would try the patch.

edit: I hated being ON any BCP. I always feel sick and tired and fat. BUT lots of women love it.

Re: BC Patch

I think it is better than the pill because you don't have to take it everyday (I used to forget all the time, which is not good). Personally, I do find some minor side effects (slightly heavier period and mild cramps before period), but honestly, it really doesn't bother me.

Re: BC Patch

I think it's a great idea, however I would think that seeing the patch stuck on me or having my dh see the patch on me would think it's so un sexy! (no offence to the ones who love it). That's my hang up! Anyone out there who can convince me otherwise?

Re: BC Patch

I switched for the same reasons as Mary...I kept forgetting to take the pill (and this started happening 3+ years after being on it)...I was also feeling a little sick everytime I took the pill...

I have worn it in hottubs too...absolutely no problems...

teri...DH used the smoking patch and it is MUCH different...the smoking patch you used was clear and plasticy? right? the BC patch is like a bandaid...

I switch buttcheeks every week...so its always hidden...even in a bathing suit (I don't wear thong suits!!)

I actually made DH take responsibility...he has to go to the pharmacy to get it every month and remind me on sundays!!

Re: BC Patch

Just got a prescription for it yesterday.

I'll give a review in a couple of weeks.

My doctor also gave me a prescription for emergency patches (in case it gets ripped or pulled off by accident).

Re: BC Patch

You all just reminded me that I forgot to take my pill today! Maybe I should look into the patch!

Re: BC Patch

I also have been using the patch for about 3 months now and I love it! I was forgetting my pills all the time, and I am NOT ready for a baby right now. The only thing I dont like about it is that it itches like crazy!

Re: BC Patch

I started using the patch on Dec 9th 2002, it has caused me to have a loss of apetite and weight loss. I think my sex drive was hit at first. It is convienent and easy. I think the only difference between the patch and the pill is the convienence.
