I just want everyone to be aware times are tough, and crime is on the rise. Last night we think someone tried to break into our condo in holtsville. We went out to dinner and a movie and didn't get back until 1am. When we opened the door DH noticed that the knob was really loose and there was a gap between the door and the knob. Also you could see a dent from something like a screwdriver where someone may have been trying to jimmy the knob off. We had to call the police and file a report. The dead bolt wasn't loose, and our alarm had not gone off. When DH was fixing the knob you could see how uneasy the sound of the knob jiggling was making out dog. We think someone may have started to break in and was spooked by either the dog barking or a neighbor pulling up as we are on the parking lot side of the condos. It freaks me out b/c our patio is fenced in and anyone could have hid in there trying to break in without being seen. We are also close to a main road that leads straight to the LIE. I was super freaked out. Couldn't sleep all night, and had a nightmare. Just wanted to let anyone who lives in the area, and everyone else know to be on the look out. I really hope they don't come back. The worst part is when DH was going to the gym yesterday someone he never saw before was asking him about the area, saying he was thinking of moving to it. The guy saw DH's car, and him leave. We took DH's car out last night, so I guess they assumed no one was home.

DH was just telling me tonite to be extra careful when Im walking alone and how he is worried about me walking alone and all this it creeped me out

I'm really sorry. This freaks me out. I keep saying this...you're going to hear more and more of this. Someone tried to break into my mother's house through a basement window during the summer. Aw, I feel bad for your dog too. Be careful and be sure to ALWAYS keep all of your doors locked even if you're home.

OMG - I am always on alert about stuff like this. Whether i'm home or not ALL doors & windows are locked at all times. I just won't feel safe otherwise. Dh always tells me that our area is safe and I don't need to be as paranoid, but I still think that it can't hurt to be careful. Seriously. Out here in Colorado, things definitely don't seem as crazy as they are in NY. Like people aren't really losing jobs or anything. I'm going to be looking for work in a couple weeks, and it really doesn't seem as though it's gonna be tough to find something... but of course i won't know that until I get my butt out there. But my point it, even tho there seems to be less crime & desperation out here, it's still so important to be on the safe side!!
Thank God your condo wasn't completely broken into. That is sooo scary. I remember when i was younger, our family car got broken into one night in the movie theatre parking lot and I had so many nightmares about that. I think that's where all my paranoia about locking doors & keeping an eye out for suspicious people began.

Awww I'm sorry how scary Thank you for the warning...my sis lives in Holtsville and i will tell her too. I am always paranoid, I always ask DH if the alarm is set and make sure the windows and doors are locked. Also he likes to take walks around the block and I always get scared, I know crime is always on the rise when the economy is bad. I hope you and DH are ok

did you see the girl on 09 board whose bank account was cleared out and somebody made like 36 charges on her name too just the past weekend how crazy is that.
I also mentioned last week that bank robberies have gone up 57%, it's insane.
Things need to get better they said in January alone 600,000 ppl lost their jobs, and since last year 3.5 million NY'ers and at this rate 28,000 ppl will continue to lose their jobs everyday No wonder all these things are happening

I saw on the news something about ppl breaking into homes during the day (I think it was in Levittown). This is so scary! My worst fear

That's crazy. I've lived in Holtsville my whole life and there has been almost zero crime there. People are such a-holes. I'm sorry this happened to you.

That is sooo scary, i would be so freaked out
DH has been away on business for 2 nites and i have been home alone, its very scary there is a lot of crime everywhere

So sorry that this happened to you! Thank you for posting this though, dh and I constantly leave our windows open- we're on the second floor, but still, will definately have to be more careful.

that's so creepy....we were robbed 1 1/2 years ago at our engagement shoot and it was the worst experience....just remember that things can be replaced, but you can't. thank goodness you both are okay!
