Bearsbabe and MichelleW

Hello ladies!

I have some weird virus that is attaching itself to emails and emailing itself to people in my address book. Since both of you are in there, PLEASE delete all emails from me for the next day or so until I can clean out my hard drive.

Sorry about this... I hope you haven't received any viruses yet.

Jen

Thanks for the heads up, but don't worry about it, our puters at work have alot of antivirus programs on it.

Are you getting excited for school yet

Whew! I'm glad you're not going to have any trouble with my virus... I was worried!

I actually am getting excited for school! I got to meet a few of my kids yesterday, and they are sweet and seem excited to be in kindergarten, so that is a GREAT start!
I did have one mom inform me that her child is 'gifted' and wants to know what I'm going to do about that... This is not going to be a fun parent to deal with!

No prob Jen!! Like Michelle said, we're virus protected!! How exactly is her child 'gifted'? I'm assuming that's in a 'bad' way, huh? I feel for you!

Jenn....

Jenn, I just read what you wrote about that mom.
I cant imagine the questions and comments you hear from parents ! ... what i have to look forward to.. what does she want you to have a plan of action just for her child ?? Not for nothing, but thats obnoxious.. how did you answer that ?? Gosh i dont know whats worse, the GREAT school districts or the WORSE ones. My future SIL has worked on both ends, from Ridgewood to Plainview, and she kinda had it easier in the 'tough' school in Ridgewood... (she had it bad from the students there, and has it bad from the parents in Plainview) - she had students threatening her and making racist comments, she was scared for her life.. they would say to her 'im gonna do to you what OJ did to Nicole' (and theyd call her 'Hey Nicole Brown SImpson'-she has blonde hair-blue eyes) and she and a few others reported these threats and they were verbally BASHED for even opening their mouths, the lady at the Bd Of Ed where they complained said to the parents of those kids 'its a shame people like this are allowed to teach'...and she said to my SIL 'so why are you concerned, what DID OJ do to Nicole ??' can you imagine ???

sorry i rambled on and on...and went off on a tangent totally off topic from your post, LOL.

Hey, don't appologize for babbling on Anna! I love to hear other teachers' experiences. I really feel for your SIL... what she dealt with was terrible!

As for my response to the parent, I said something to the effect of 'it's best if your daughter and I get to know one another better before we decide on the best route to take this year.' That satisfied her for now, but she'll be back to question me again before September is over, I'm sure!

Re: Jenn....

gosh some parents are classics, GIFTED at the age of 5. then why isnt she in the 5th grade ??? HAH.
or better yet, sign her up for Harvard !

I give you credit, Jenn for having to deal with some of those parents. By the time i get into the school system to teach, (hopefully in 2 years, thats my goal) or less if i finish the prov cert before then..
you'll be a pro with answers to all these wiseguy parents.

I can picture them saying 'my child has a cell phone and can call me any time during the day'
what has this world come to. I rmember the days when the teachers wack a book over your head if you werent listening, or one teacher would make his kids stand in the garbage can ! we were terrified of him, just the sight of him, thank God i didnt have him !

Re: Jenn....

Talk about demanding moms, my MIL works in a daycare for a rehab-type school. She watches the kids of the therapists.
She has the INFANT group that crawl and drool all day. She has had parents that bring their kids ALL dolled up head to toe, and then have a few outfits and ask her to change them during the day ! shes like 'uhm they stay in what you bring them in unless they dirty their clothes and we have to change them, this is not a fashion show!' and some of them are like 'she likes to be held all day' and my MIL goes 'there are 6 other infants and 2 of US watching them, she CANNOT Be held all day'
why dont they get a live in nanny if they have all these demands ?

are people in a dense fog out there ???
ME ME MEEEE ME ME ME MEEEEE (sung in the tone of LA LA LA LAAA LA LA LA)

Re: Jenn....

I can sooo relate to what your MIL deals with! There are some days (picture day, field trips, concerts) where kids are sent to school in one outfit, with an entirely different outfit (down to the socks!) in their backpack with a note asking that the child be sent to the nurse to be 'changed' after or before whatever the special event is. Okay I can totally understand a special outfit for pictures or whatever, but the nurse is NOT a nanny! if the child can't change on his own in the bathroom, it's not happening! The nurse won't change a kid unless there is a reason for the change (accident, vomiting) and parents become furious about that!!

You are so right about the ME thing... Fortunately, those types are the exception rather than the rule! I have to say that MOST parents are great ( I actually miss them as much as I miss their children!), but that one rotten apple just gets under your skin and sticks there...
