Becoming a Realtor

Becoming a Realtor

So I'm thinking that I might want to go for my real estate license. I'm not sure where or how to begin.

Do any of you ladies have suggestions or know of how to begin?

I know now is probably not the time to become a realtor but I want to have this in my pocket for the future.

I did this a few years ago. You have to start by taking the class. The one i went to was on Rt. 111. The class was great, but being a realtor was very difficult. I found it very cut throat and aggressive... all qualities that i don't really possess.. lol

I have my license but have never actually done anything with it yet

My old office sent me to get it. I took a class and then took the test. Look on real estate board of New york

rebny.com

I took the class on lexington and 6th. It was really good and made the test a breeze

I'm asking about residential but wouldn't mind know about Commercial also.

ita- I just quit actually- I worked for a major real estate company for three years and got screwed like no one's business on my last deal- out of $27,000- its a crappy business and even more cut throat now because of the crappy market.

Realy?? Laltely I've been seeing realtors come to show my apt. and they barely say anything or really do anything to sell the place. The woman I'm listed through speaks and tries to sell but all the others really don't. I get the impression they think we're still in the boom of the market where houses/apt.'s etc sold themselves per say and this is not the case anymore.

Half the time I end up talking about my place to the potential buyers or asking the brokers if they have any questions. Even when they call me to see if they can show the place (I'm not home most of the time that they show it) they don't ask what are the selling point's. I ask them if they want to know then and some of them are like 'no that's ok.'

I'm looking into it more for the future for flexability in career at some point. But that also prompted me to look into it.

I mean more in the sense that you get screwed... a LOT. Your salary is definitely based on how invested you are, but like MB said, it's a very screwy business and one minute you see your commission, the next minute it's in someone elses bank account.

You should definitely read up about it and look into some realty company's that are hiring. See how they work, what the commission structure is like, etc. When it's good, it's good...

Re: Becoming a Realtor

i was thinking of getting my license as well but in florida - just something for side money - i figure it can't hurt to have a job where i can be flexible and work from home a bit - im totally into it right now b/c we are househunting - well house waiting is more like it our realtor in florida told me to let her know if i still want to do it once i get down there and she will help me out, so i dont know - have to see what happens....

someone close to DHs family is in real estate - they say that back in the day they didnt even have a pot to piss in and now the wife has a real estate empire so i know there are some people who do really well - but she has been at it for years and is very dedicated....

im just looking for something to get me by so im not bored out of my mind - something i might enjoy and hopefully make some extra money doing.....i tell DH that i dont want to do the 9-5 office thing anymore

That's just it I don't want to do the 9-5 anymore either, I want flexibility. I guess I'm thining future, children, etc. and the more I think about it the less I wsnt to leave early in the morning and come home late in the evening.

Gosh if you would've told me 5 years ago that's be considering this and talking like this I would'v laughed. I used to be such a work-a-holic.

I am a realtor and I love it! it is great because you can make your own schedule but you get out of it what you put in it.
It is a tough market but if you can market yourself, and learn the business you can be very successful when the market picks up.
