NYC?? or LI??

It's more about the doctor than the hospital.. NY Presbyterian, Cornell is great but they have residents.. not that there's anything wrong with residents but you might have a resident in their ''learning' and then there is St. Luke is Westchester and North Shore in LI is good.. but they have residents..

check out dr.profiles.com - if your. dr. from NY, they have their education and all that stuff listed.. also with any pending lawsuits for malpractice..

In the city, NY Presbyterian, Mt. Sinai and NYU are the top 3. NY Presbyterian usually ranks top of most lists. It's where I'm delivering (Cornell specifically, that's where my OB is affiliated). LI I'm not sure.

Here's NY Magazine's Top Hospitals by field:

My sis-in-law is a labor & delivery nurse at Stonybrook and she told me she absolutely refuses to let her future nieces or nephews be born anywhere BUT there! She says Stonybrook has the best equipment and stuff... of course, she could be biased since she works there LOL!

I've heard Stoneybrook and Winthrop, b/c they are 'learning institutions', it has it's pluses and minuses, my BM just had her baby at Winthrop and they took an hr and half to sew her up after giving natural birth b/c they were teaching a resident!

And that is why I requested no residents in my room while delivery When I delivered #1 there were 8 people in my room talk about embaressing having everyone see your stuff in the spotlight

If you are delivering on LI I would recomend StonyBrook because they have a level III NICU. At any other hospital if there is a complication with the baby that they can't manage the baby will most likely be transferred to SB and you will have to stay where you delivered.

FYI with teaching hospitals, if you are not comfortable with a resident ding a procedure on you, such as stitching you up, as a patient you have teh right to Refuse a student doing a procedure and have an attending do it. Still, a lot of these students, especially 3rd year residents are really good at what to do and up to date with more current medical information than some of the older Dr.s!

My nephews were both born in NYH of Queens (the old Booth Memorial). My SIL had a great stay there, the staff is really friendly and they really took time to check up on her at all hours. She had a c-section and said she would recommend everyone to have their kids there.
When you are waiting to get checked in they have this little beeper thing that lets you know once your room is ready. I ove the rooms bc they have pictures and when its time for labor those pictures flip and the equipment is on the other side. Maybe i am a looser but I was fascinated by that

i absolutely agree.. DH tells me that with certain procedures, older attendings pass the buck to the newer attendings and residents.

Also residents are medical doctors.. and a third year resident is as good as an attending.. but of course when you at your most glorious moment, you don't want anyone in there..
