bilingual seating? a repost from the bhb board

I am trying to get more answers/opinions on this one... The issue at hand is impoliteness rather than inability to speak English...

I have an interesting question:
Fi's friends prefer to speak Russian, mine are mostly americans (i.e. speak English). We were planning to seat them separately (i.e. not mix languages), but I just realized then we'll have mostly male and mostly female tables, with all bms sitting at the female table and all groomsmen at male... This feels a bit weird to me, but I am scared of mixing them up... What should we do?

I think it's fine if that what's you think your guests would feel most comfortable with. I don't think the look of an all male / all female table would harm anything! For me, I would want my guests to feel the most comfortable and have fun and if I thought that be separating them in this way, would make them feel the best, then yes, I say do it!

I agree with Cira. Your guests are likely to have a much better time at the wedding if they can have comfortable conversation with their tablemates.
