I'm throwing DH a surprise birthday party and besides it being a 30th birthday I wanted to do a theme along with it. DH was born in 1980 - do you think an 80s/30th birthday theme would be too over the top or think it would be fun. I'd make it costume optional.

I think it depends on your guests...I know if I did that for DH this summer NO ONE would get involved. So it all depends really.

I said no cause DH is turning 30 this year also and he hates the 80s. I love the 80s but that is because I was in HS during the late 80s and enjoyed it more...Dh was still young in the 80s and is more of a 90s person.
Plus 30th is a big deal anyway and I don't think you really need a theme.

I love it! My friends family did that for her dad’s 50th bday but it was like a 70s theme – there were a whole lot of hippies there.

For my 30th, I did an 'Old School t-shirt' party. People REALLY got into. Transformers, rainbow brite, my little pony, top gun.....they were all there.
I had pixi stix/now and later/ bazooka joes/ lemon heads as favors and photos of my favorite shows (family ties, Different Strokes) scattered around.
It was a BLAST. I had over 50 people show up and we had a wonderful time. Definitely go for it. DH will love it!

i think its an awesome theme..but i will say make sure dh and his friends and the guests who r invited would be into it
i say that cause i have thrown theme parites b4 and people weresupposed to get dressed up in the theme then when the party stats me and a few others are the only morons dressed up lol
but if would be into it then i would totally go for it

I loooooooooove this idea! Much easier than doing a whole 80s theme too! Thanks for the great idea!

If you can get people to participate then I think it sounds great. You have to go by who the guests would be. DH's friends from NJ have a theme party a year and its always a blast. For his cousin's 40th they threw a Fiesta and everyone went all out. It was great. If you have people who are into it then its a great idea for a party.

I love it Lauren! Think 80's is much better than if I was throwing my DH a bday party who was born in the late 60's...I cant even IMAGINE that theme!...lol
