Ugh ... I have this chore of picking out blinds for our windows and it seems that what I love is way to expensive. What to do?
Well, I thought, that since all you ladies on here are brillant, and a few of you are going through this too, I'd ask for some help. Any pics or advice or suggestions on how you went through this experience would be most helpful!
I'm leaning towards the wood blinds - I just love them, but I was told that they might make the room to dark? Comments?

Re: Blinds ...
I HATE blinds to go. There was No help and honestly, there prices were not too much less. The wood blinds look the same but no warp problems and they are lighter weight so it is easier to pull them up. I couldn't justify the $1K vertical silhouettes (because of the cat) but I did tell Scott that we might has well buy quality now so that we don't have to replace them for a while. That seemed to help him 'okay' the purchase

Re: Blinds ...
Michelle ... we don't think this will be our 'final' house, so Rob really doesn't want to buy all the best things that if we move, we don't take. We do intend to stay for at least 5 years, but if we can afford it, I'd really love a better school district, plus our dream home is definitely not affordable right now and we even toss the idea of moving out of state. But, even if we can't move and we stay there forever, he thinks that we could replace the blinds at a later time, perhaps when we can afford things much better. Who knows! But I thank you so much for your help! I think I am going to go with the wood and the faux wood too - I will probably take a look at Ikea this weekend.
Deb - she was nice, but I really think it's a matter of opinion, so I needed to make up my mind before she could have been that helpful! I'll let you know what I decide!!!
Fran - definitely will keep you posted!

Re: Blinds ...
Several years ago I got really inexpensive blinds at a curtain/window treatment outlet on Voice Road in Carle Place. I don't remember the name of it but it is a few doors down from Marty's close to the Ulta 3 on Glen Cove Road. I don't know if they have wood/faux wood blinds though. Good luck
but growing up I had wooden shutters in my room...yes in the inside...remember...it was the 70's...but the wooden shutters (pretty thinck) blocked out any light from inside...but they folded to the sides for tons of light...or I could just crack the slats...but it was definitely darker than regular blinds
today's wooden blinds I am sure are lighter than what I had growing up
